Clarence Rust Obituary

Clarence Rust, age 78 of Alexandria, formerly of Glenwood, died Monday, March 26, 2018 at St. Mary's Campus, Mayo Clinic, in Rochester. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood with Father Joe Vandeberg officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date in the Calvary Cemetery in Glenwood. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Clarence Milo Rust, the son of Orine and Mildred (Danielson) Rust was born August 28, 1939 in Glenwood, Minnesota. He grew up on a farm south of Glenwood and attended Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church. He graduated from Glenwood High School. On November 12, 1956, Clarence entered the United States Army. He served his country in the Army and later the Army National Guard. He was honorably discharged on November 11, 1962.

On November 5, 1960, Clarence was united in marriage to Jean Glynn in Minneapolis. They made their home in Rochester, New Prague, Byron, Villard and Minneapolis before they moved to Glenwood. They built a house in rural Glenwood in 1970 and continued to reside there for the next 46 years. Clarence and Jean were blessed with four children.

Clarence farmed, raised pigs, and drove semi along with being employed at Gloges, Alex Boot works, Marigold Dairy and Prairie Lakes Coop.  He enjoyed working outside, mowing the lawn, watching Nascar races and collecting toy tractors. He also enjoyed taking snowmobile and ski trips. He was very sociable and loved to drive semi and farm. He especially loved to take care of his baby pigs and spend time with his family.

Clarence was a member of the pork producers, was a first Responders and Jaycees while living in New Prague. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood, where he was an usher, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. When Clarence needed help with his daily care he moved into the Bethany Home. He passed away Monday, March 26, 2018 at the Mayo Clinic, St. Mary’s Campus in Rochester.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Rust of Alexandria; children: William (Sandy) Rust of Glenwood, Steven (Cindy) Rust of Elk River, Kimberly (Richard) Ihnen of Pasco, WA, and Cheryl Rust of Alexandria; 10 grandchildren: Jessica, Nick, Joshua, Chelsie, Kasie, Tony, Candice, Kristi and Tyler; 11 great-grandchildren: Amelia, Kaylee, Avery, Braden, Emilie, Hannah, Emmalee, Dustin, Parker, Aubrie and Merek; sister, Sharon Nelson of Glenwood; brothers: Ordell (Carol) of Glenwood, LeRoy (Susan) of Maple Grove, Harvey (Carolyn) of Glenwood, and Gerald (Diane) of Glenwood; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lavina Gaffaney.
