Delores E. (McDougle) Koob

Delores E. Koob age 93 of Sauk Rapids, died Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Sauk Rapids. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, May 12th at Glenwood United Parish with Pastor Laura Nordstrom officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be in the West Lake Amelia Cemetery in rural Villard.  Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. 

Delores Elaine Koob, the daughter of James and OIive Albert-McDougle, was born on January 21, 1924, in a farm home near Grove Lake, Minnesota. Her father Jim, was a farmer, veterinarian, and sheep shearer. She was a twin and part of a large and loving family of 12 brothers and sisters.  Of the 13 children of Jim and Olive, only 3 are yet living.

Delores grew up in the Pope County area, attending schools in Grove Lake, Terrace, and Sedan.

She married Fritz Koob on November 23, 1943, and they resided in Sedan. They had 4 boys.   Her husband Fritz, died in November, 1965.

Delores and Fritz were members of the Presbyterian Church in Sedan.  When the church was closed, Delores became a member of the Congregational Church in Glenwood and then the United Parish Church in Glenwood.

During the war, Delores and her twin sister, Delaine, moved to Minneapolis to work in an ammunition and clothing factory. After her marriage she helped occasionally at the Sedan telephone switchboard which was operated by her mother. She also was one of the first cooks when the Sedan school began serving hot meals to the students. Fritz and Delores owned and operated the Standard Oil business in Sedan and later the local school bus line. In 1970, she moved from Sedan to Glenwood where she worked occasionally as a cook in a local restaurant.

In the spring of 2005, due to health concerns, Delores moved to St. Benedicts Assisted Living Center in St. Cloud, and then later to the Ridgeview Center in Sauk Rapids.

Delores loved to sew, knit, and cook. She was devoted to her family and had a very special place in her heart for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Delores is survived by her sons, Kenneth (Janet Neumann—deceased) of Glenwood, Larry (DiAnne Hesby) of St. Cloud; Robert (Nancy Hauge) of Longmont, CO, Steven (Patti Laidlaw) of Jackson Hole, WY.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings, Myrtle Jergenson, James McDougle and John McDougle; and many nephews and nieces.

Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Fritz; daughter-in-law, Janet; her parents, and 9 of her siblings: William McDougle, Caroline Stene, Beatrice VanVickle, Mary Brandanger, Marcella Hagen, Delaine Erickson, Kathryn Anderson, Mable Dekok and Gerald McDougle.
