Dennis Ripley, age 77, of Glenwood, MN, died Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Glenwood Village Care Center. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 8th, at All Saint’s Chapel in Glenwood Village Care Center, with Pastor Bonnie Lomen officiating. Visitation will be at All Saint’s Chapel, one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in Fort Snelling Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.
Dennis Alfred Ripley was born on February 22, 1940, to parents Dale and Ruth (Daggett) Ripley at their farm home near George, Iowa. His family moved to a farm near Dawson, MN when he was two years old.
After high school, on November 27, 1957, Dennis joined the Navy. He served until January 11, 1961, when he was honorably discharged at Pensacola, FL. He had enlisted under the “kiddie sign up”, which meant he had a reserve obligation which ran through November 26, 1963.
Following his naval discharge, Dennis moved to Minneapolis, MN, where he married Karma Eddy on January 27, 1962. They had one daughter, Annette. Dennis later joined the Merchant Marines where he worked for Interlake Steamship Company for the next 38 years, before retiring to his lake home near Glenwood, MN in 2003.
Dennis liked fast cars, especially his 2008 Mustang Super-Snake, diesel pickups, and fishing for lake trout and salmon on Lake Michigan.
Dennis is survived by his daughter, Annette Peach of Winston-Salem, NC; two sisters, Carol (Chuck) Robertson of Alexandria, MN, and Sharon (Gary) Kinler of Richfield, MN; nieces, nephews, cousins; and special neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
