Eleanor Berggren, age 92 of Glenwood, died Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Grand Arbor Knute Nelson in Alexandria, Minnesota.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 9th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood.  Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Hoplin-Hitchcock funeral home in Glenwood and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be in Grove Lake Cemetery.  Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Eleanor Harriet Berggren, the daughter of Felix and Lucille (Schwartz) Blaskowski was born September 30, 1925 in Jamestown, North Dakota. Eleanor went to school in Buchanan, North Dakota until her family moved to Minnesota.  She then attended school in Brainerd before her family settled in Grove Lake and graduated from Glenwood High School.

On June 5, 1950, Eleanor was united in marriage to Gustav “Pep” Berggren at the Immaculate Conception Church in Sedan. Eleanor and Pep made their home on a farm in Grove Lake. This marriage was blessed with a daughter, Janet. They shared 36 years of marriage before Pep passed away on November 17, 1986.

Eleanor was a loving farm wife and mother who was hard working and loved to be busy. Along with helping on the farm, she worked for Bayer built for 9 years and had various other jobs. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Sedan and then Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood. She was a member of the Christian Mothers and a member of the Glenwood VFW and Legion Auxiliary.

Eleanor will be remembered for her witty sense of humor and kind heart.  She always looked classy and was known as a sporty dresser. She enjoyed dressing up for St. Patty’s Day and loved celebrating in Padua. She will also be remembered as the Grove Lake community fire bug, as she accidently set a few local fires. Eleanor especially loved spending time with her family. She had a very close relationship with her two grandchildren, Jason and Shelly growing up and loved them dearly. As the grandchildren got older, Eleanor extended that care to her two great-grandchildren, Collin and Clara. Eleanor passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017 under the loving, compassionate care of the staff at Grand Arbor and Knute Nelson Hospice.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet (Paul) Betker of Darwin, MN; grandchildren, Jason Roelike and Shelly (Justin) Cotton; great-grandchildren, Collin and Clara Roelike; brother, Felix Blaskowski of Glenwood and sister-in-law’s: Betty Blaskowski of Kensington and Joan Blaskowski of Sauk Center; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
