John E. Vold, age 77 of Mesa, AZ and Glenwood, MN died, Sunday, March 19, 2017 at the Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona.  A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 30th at Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church in Terrace with Pastor Bonnie Lomen officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 29th from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.  Inurnment will be in the Chippewa Falls Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

John Eugene Vold, the son of Harold and Viola (Hagestuen) Vold, was born on October 24, 1939, in Starbuck, Minnesota.  He grew up on a farm near Terrace, Minnesota. In 1941, at the age of 2, John won the prestigious honor of the Baby Derby Darlings photo contest in the Greater Glenwood area. He attended and was confirmed at Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church.  John was a Glenwood High School graduate of the class of 1957. That same year, John met his loving wife, Adeline Johnson, on a fateful night on Main Street in Brooten, Minnesota. The two were engaged in December 1958, and united in marriage on January 21, 1961 in Brooten. They made their home in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. Such an awesome couple was of course blessed with two strapping and handsome sons, Jeff in 1961, and Bradley in 1963. 

John served eight years in the Minnesota National Guard. He was employed as a marine mechanic for many years at North Side Mercury Marine and Minnesota Marine before going to work at Office Depot where he was employed until his retirement in 2006. In 2008, John and Adeline moved back to their hometown of Glenwood. They spent the last eight years traveling to Arizona in the winter to enjoy the sun and other snowbird friends. John loved fishing on Grove Lake, playing games with friends, and was a real handy man around the house. 

He is survived by his wife, Adeline (Johnson) Vold; two sons, Jeff (Nancy) Vold of Plymouth and Brad Vold of Hugo; his favorite granddaughter, Rachel Vold of Blaine; two sisters, Sylvia (Dick) Hauge of Glenwood and Jeanne (Larry) Helling of Pass Christian, MS; a brother, Steven (Susan) Vold of Billings, MT; as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Viola Vold; and his nephew, Scott Hauge. 

John will be remembered for his kind heart, infectious laugh and the patience he had dealing with his very demanding family. We will miss him dearly.
