Margaret A. Roering, age 81, of Glenwood, MN, died Thursday, January 19, 2017, at Glenwood Retirement Village surrounded by her family and under the care of Glacial Ridge Hospice. A private family service will be held at a later date and inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenwood, MN. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.

Margaret Anna Shirley Morgel, daughter of Frank and Bernice (Chapp) Morgel, was born on December 6, 1935, in Avon, MN.  She was raised on a farm near St. Anna, along with her ten siblings, and attended St. Benedict’s Catholic Church. She attended country school in Stearns County before going to work at the St. Cloud Hospital, where she worked until her marriage to Andrew “Andy” Roering.  The two wed on October 28, 1958 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Holdingford. Their marriage was blessed with five children, Deb, Duane, Tim, Patty, and Tom. Their first home was in Coon Rapids, where they lived for 15 years. After that the family briefly made their home in Albany, before finally settling in Glenwood in 1973, where Andy owned and operated Andy’s Fire. Margaret and Andrew shared 47 years of marriage before his death on January 26, 2006.

Margaret enjoyed being at home, raising her children and taking care of the family. She and Andrew were members of the Church of the Sacred Heart in Glenwood, where she was active in Christian Mothers and involved with missionary work. She also volunteered at the Clothes Closet shelter in Glenwood. Her hobbies included crocheting, embroidery work, gardening and working in her yard.

Margaret is survived by her children, Deb Armstrong of Glenwood, Duane (Lynn) of Anchorage, AK, Tim (Kim) of Oakdale, MN, Patty Ludwig of Baxter, MN, and Thomas of Cosmos, MN; 11 grandchildren, DeAnna and Leann Roering, Shane (Lindsey), Shelby, and Taylor Ludwig, Sarah, Katharine, Benjamin and Samuel Roering, Devin and Steven Roering; 2 great-grandchildren, Laken Roering and McKinley Ludwig; and two sisters, Jenny LaBuda and Betty Nathan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew; her parents, Frank and Bernice Morgel; three sisters, Marie Olson, Deloris Schwinghammer, and Bridget Benson; and five brothers, Steve, Al, Frank, Jr., Paul, and Edmond.
