After the closing of Herter’s, he became a successful businessman and entrepreneur. He was passionate about his work and held leadership positions at Glenwood Manufacturing and American Overhead Conveyor. After retirement, his passion continued and led him to establish, own, and operate Rich Mar Sports and Instant Shade. Dick served as Chairman of the School Board for nearly 20 years, was active in Jaycees, Lions Club, Glenwood Development Commission, and on the Glenwood Lutheran Church Council. He was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching college and professional sports, especially Minnesota teams. He also enjoyed the many lifelong friendships he and Carol developed in Glenwood. In addition, they spent many happy winters in Arizona. Over the years, Dick enjoyed playing bridge, fishing, hunting, camping, golf, tennis, and activities with or watching his grandchildren. He loved living by Lake Minnewaska and sharing the sunsets with Carol.
