A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7th at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood, with Pastor Laura Nordstrom officiating. Rockland Jarrett DeBoer, son of Dennis and Sallie (Olson) DeBoer, was born on August 3, 1966, in Glenwood, MN. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Glenwood, graduating with the Class of 1985. He and his family were members of Glenwood United Parish. On August 20, 1985, he enlisted in the United States Navy serving as an Operations Specialist, first on active duty, including  deployments on the U.S.S. Inchon and U.S.S. Orion, and then in the Naval Reserve until his honorable discharge on August 28, 1992. Upon his return home, Rocky went to work at KMGK radio station in Glenwood and enrolled at the nearby Alexandria Technical College where he earned a degree in MicroComputer Support, graduating in December of 1994. Rocky continued his career in radio at KMGK for the next 25 years, working behind the scenes and off the air as the Traffic Manager, producing programs and managing the technology necessary to operate the station.

Rocky loved working with computers and kept up with all the new developments in that field. He was always willing to help family and friends with their computer issues and encouraged others to embrace and utilize new technology. He also had a deep appreciation for nature and looked forward to watching his perennials come up each spring. On the farm where he lived he enjoyed watching and photographing the wildlife that passed through and each year he raised a large garden with his extended family.

Rocky will be remembered for his kind heart and thoughtfulness. He was always available for family when needed and was especially close to his late grandmother, Edna Olson, and his late mother, Sallie DeBoer. He was also a favorite uncle to his nieces who lived nearby and visited with him often.

Rocky died very unexpectedly at his home on the morning of Wednesday, February 28, 2018.  “Uncle” Rocky, as his family called him, will be greatly missed.

Rocky is survived by his father, Dennis DeBoer of Glenwood; two brothers, Travis (Kristin) DeBoer of Prior Lake, and Ashley (Alissa) DeBoer of Glenwood; three nieces, Arivia, Annika, and Ayla DeBoer; two nephews, Braden and Connor DeBoer; and his good friend and uncle, Steve Nestor; as well as other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sallie DeBoer; maternal grandparents, Clyde and Edna Olson; and paternal grandparents, Raymond and Evelyn DeBoer.
