Shirley Bogie, age 88 of Glenwood, died Friday, February 10, 2017 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, February 13th at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Chapel in Glenwood, with Rev. Krista Lee officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in the Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Shirley Jean Bogie, the daughter of Peter C. and Ragna (Bahle) Johnson was born December 16, 1928 in Dalton, Minnesota. She grew up in Glenwood where she attended school and was a member of Glenwood Lutheran Church. While in high school she was a cheerleader and was active in softball where she earned the nickname “Slugger”. Shirley graduated from Glenwood High School in 1947.
Shirley was employed by the telephone office in Glenwood for eight years and by Ruhr American in Glenwood for three years. On November 19, 1949, she was united in marriage to George Bogie at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. The couple made their home in Glenwood and were blessed with two daughters, Jane and Mary.
Shirley was a lifelong member of Glenwood Lutheran Church where she belonged to circle. She enjoyed golfing, knitting, biking and working in her garden. She will be remembered for her good sense of humor, caring attitude, love of pets and the love she showed to her family. Shirley passed away February 10, 2017 at the St. Cloud Hospital.
She is survived by her daughters: Jane Bogie of Glenwood and Mary (Larry) Stumpf of Alexandria; grandchildren: Abbie (Josh) Ensrud, Ashley (Jacob) Schmidt and Sarah Stumpf; great-grandchildren: Emma and Norah Schmidt and Alexandra, Blair and Fallon Ensrud; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; husband, George in 1993; and siblings: Ella Johnson, Nora Hatling, Myrtle Schleip, Howard Johnson, Clara Johnson, Hazel Johnson, Dode Ortiz, Edwin Johnson, Phyllis Molstre, Connie Denhardt, Muriel Wesen, Henrietta Johnson, and Evaline Johnson
