Gerald "Jerry" A. Hubert, age 77 of Alexandria, formerly of rural Glenwood, died Sunday, January 22, 2017 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.  Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25th at Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church in Terrace with Pastor Bonnie Lomen officiating.  Visitation will be Tuesday, from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.  Interment will be in the Chippewa Falls Lutheran Cemetery.  Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Gerald “Jerry” Arthur Hubert, the son of Arthur and Ethel (Pittenger) Hubert was born November 4, 1939 in Erickson Township, Renville County, Minnesota.  He grew up on a farm near Sacred Heart, Minnesota until 1949 when his parents moved to rural Glenwood.  Jerry attended country school, District #78 and later Glenwood High School.  He enjoyed helping farm with his dad and brother, Jim.

Jerry entered the United States Army on March 13, 1959.  He completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri and served his country at a Missile base in Niagara Falls, NY. He was honorably discharged February 28, 1961.

After the service, Jerry came home and enjoyed driving truck from 1961 to 1967.  He then began farming on his parents homestead in Chippewa Falls Township.  After returning home from the Army, he met the love of his life, Judy Knutson. On July 11, 1964 he made her his bride at South Lake Johanna Lutheran Church in rural Brooten. To this union, 4 daughters were born: Kimberlee, Cheryl, Cynthia and Kathy.  Jerry was very proud of “his girls.”

Jerry served on the Township Board for Chippewa Falls for 8 years.  He was an active member of Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church, serving in various positions.  He continued to farm until 1999, when he retired from farming and returned to truck driving for Sondrol Excavating for 19 years until he retired in 2016. He was known for his love of John Deere machinery and Ford vehicles.  The sign on the end of the long oak tree driveway at their homestead told you that you were in John Deere Country.

Jerry was known for his dedication to his family, his devotion to wife and girls. He had a ready laugh and enjoyed a good conversation, a good meal and meeting neighbors and customers. Jerry and Judy enjoyed snowmobiling, skiing, biking and going on trips together.  When the girls were younger they enjoyed going for Sunday drives, visiting relatives and ending up at the Dairy Queen for a treat.  He enjoyed his girls, teaching them values of hard work, organization and dedication. He set a strong example of how to treat your wife. The girls recall that when you showed an interest or desire for something you needed, “he would quickly move to action, Dad was never one to procrastinate.”  He loved shopping around and finding a good deal. He enjoyed as the sons-in-law were added to the family especially deer hunting on the farm and a trip to visit the John Deere factories in Illinois and Iowa with son-in-law, Jason.  In October of 2016, Jerry and Judy sold their beloved homestead in rural Glenwood and moved to Alexandria.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judy Hubert of Alexandria; daughters: Kim (Ken) Redding of Maple Grove, MN, Sheri (Jason) Dykhoff of Hamel, MN, Cindy Holder of Alexandria, MN, and Kathy (Louie) Christiansen of Glenwood; 11 grandchildren: Crystal Redding, Jami Kramer, Erika Holder, Sean Holder, Megan Hickenbottom, Steve Redding, Matt Redding, Melissa Reich, Taylor Dykhoff, Halli Christiansen and Jack Christiansen; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Darlene (Jim) Rutten of Alexandria; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Hubert; sister-in-law, Marie Hubert and brother-in-law, Delray Ringdahl.

My condolences to the family for your loss. May the God of all comfort give peace to each of you as we await the day when Jesus calls for those in the memorial tombs to come out. (2 Corinthians 1:3,4; John 5:28,29)
