We understand that for many families, talking about death can be very
difficult. We also realize that today, with family members often spread
throughout the country it is probably more important than ever to reflect
on some very important decisions regarding your funeral, and to have
those decisions recorded and made known to others who care about you.
The Benefits of Funeral Pre-Planning…
- During our lives we plan for many events and
situations such as holidays, weddings, and retirement.
What we often don’t plan for or think about
is our own funeral.
- More adults are finding that planning their own service offers them
comfort and peace of mind.
- Decisions are made at an unemotional time and personal wishes are
more likely to be made known and honored.
- Loved ones won’t question “Did we do the right thing?
Did we forget anything? Is this what she/he wanted? Preplanning your
funeral not only lets your survivors know what your wishes are but
also helps to avoid family disputes. For many families the recording
of biographical information and decisions regarding their funeral
is all the preplanning which is done.
The Benefits of Pre-Funding Funeral Services…
- Pre-funding can eliminate many of the financial
concerns of your family at the time of death.
- Funds will be held by a reputable third party financial institution.
- Funds invested in a funeral plan will not count as an asset if you
enter a nursing home or need to become eligible for financial assistance.
Who are Funds Invested With?
We currently utilize Burial Insurance through Homesteaders Life Insurance Company, Employees Life Company (ELCO)
and local banking institutions with what is called an Irrevocable or Revocable Funeral Trust.
Both funding vehicles are in compliance with the current Minnesota
guidelines.
What about Life Insurance Policies?
Current Life Insurance Policies that are held by individuals may or
may not be able to be allocated for funeral expenses, thus eliminating
the need to cash in the policy. Working directly with the insurance
company, the policy holder may request to have a change of beneficiary
form sent to them, which allows them to designate the funeral home of
choice. Once the change has been made, the insurance policy will
not count as an asset, and will not affect financial assistance eligibility.
Can Pre-Paid Funeral Arrangements be Transferred?
Absolutely. In fact, you can transfer a pre-paid funeral agreement
to any funeral home should you move out of the area permanently. We
will assist you in completing all the necessary paperwork to complete
the transfer.
