Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 22nd at the Brooten Community Church.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Brooten.

Angeline Jeanette Den Hartog was born May 15, 1921 to John and Anna Den Hartog in Hospers, Iowa.

On June 26, 1942 she was united in marriage to John Peter Zwagerman in Hospers, IA.  In 1951, Angie and John purchased a farm near Belgrade, MN, where they moved with their young family.

Angie is remembered as a woman who was always busy serving others. She loved taking care of her family of seven children at the farm by Belgrade and her home was her happy place. There she was busy making sour milk pancakes and other hot breakfasts almost daily. She was in the kitchen most days preparing dinners, suppers and lunches in between during busy farming seasons. She had a big vegetable garden, kept the lawn mowed, and often delivered lunches out to the field. She was always busy making sure her family had a clean house, clean sheets, clean clothes and handkerchiefs, polished shoes and memorized Bible verses every Saturday.

When it was time to leave the farm in 1968, Angie got busy turning the next house by Brooten into a home. The house came with antique furniture which she developed an appreciation for and patiently restored many pieces which she was so proud of.

She kept busy with settling into new homes as they moved to Willmar, Humboldt, Tennessee, back to Brooten, Oakes, North Dakota, Hutchinson and eventually the Twin Cities. She always made each place feel like home with her cleaning, decorating, cooking and welcoming nature. During those years of relocating, she was also busy with part-time jobs; in the kitchen at Bethesda Nursing Home in Willmar, a childcare provider in Tennessee, a café cook/server in Brooten and housekeeping at Burns Manor in Hutchinson.

After ‘retiring’ Angie and John moved to Arizona where they were extra busy enjoying the company of their neighbors and relatives. There too, she was always helping others with whatever they needed.

John passed away after fifty years of marriage and Angie returned to live in Minnesota. She never lost her desire to serve, continuing to bake and cook for whoever would visit, always wanting to send food home with them.   After moving into the nursing home in Belgrade she still wanted to serve coffee and treats to her visitors.  Angie was transferred to the memory care unit at St. Mary’s in Winsted in July 2016 where she resided until her death, August 18, 2017 at the age of 96.

Angie is survived by her children: Karen (James) Mee of Tempe, AZ, Duane (Barbara) Zwagerman of Bloomington, Debra (Philip) Ouwinga of Jenison, MI, Daryl (Laurie) Zwagerman of Brooten, Janis (Douglas) Hoogeveen of Atwater and Lorie (Robert) Utne of Savage, MN, son-in-law, Norman Dekok; 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Genevieve Van Kooten, Luella Grotenhuis, Donald (Audrey) Den Hartog, John (Ann) Den Hartog, Jr., and Wanda (Bill) Johnson; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1992; a daughter in infancy, Wendi; daughter, Linda Dekok in 1997 and granddaughter, Lisa Dekok in 1979.
