Ardelle M. (Thormodsgard) Walsh

Ardelle Walsh, age 92 of Glenwood, died Wednesday, February 26, 2014 surrounded by her family at her son's home in Brooten.  A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 10th at Glenwood Lutheran Church in Glenwood with Rev. Krista Lee officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Inurnment will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Minneapolis at a later date.  Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.  

Ardelle Mae Walsh, the daughter of Erick and Celia (Rommereim) Thormodsgard was born October 18, 1921 in Bowdon, North Dakota.  She attended school and graduated from Bowdon High School in 1939 and went on to beauty school in Fargo, North Dakota.  After graduation in 1940, she moved to Minneapolis and worked as a beautician until 1952.  

On March 14, 1952, she was united in marriage to Edward Walsh.  Ardelle and Eddie made their home in Minneapolis.  In 1967, Ardelle started working for the Minneapolis School System as a Secretary at South High School.  She retired from that position in 1981. The couple enjoyed several winters at Apache Junction, AZ, as well as spending 15 years at their Eagle Lake cabin. Ardelle and Eddie shared 41 years of marriage before he passed away in August of 1993.  In 2004, Ardelle moved to Glenwood to be closer to her immediate family. To her last breath, she was a passionate Christian and a model of courage!

Ardelle enjoyed traveling, walking, baking, cooking, cross stitch, knitting, quilting and sewing.  Ardelle loved the Minnesota Twins and she made Homer Hanky Pillows for many of her family members.  She especially loved spending time with her family and friends. The family will miss her famous doughnuts, lefse, sugar cookies and homemade gifts.

Ardelle is survived by her sons: Thomas Walsh of Brooten, MN and James (Dianne) Walsh of Osakis; 13 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter-in-law, Vicki Walsh; 2 brothers, Norris Thormodsgard and Murhl Thormodsgard; 3 sisters, Mae Thormodsgard, Alma Summers and Edith Weiss; and two great-grandchildren, Hayley Waldvogel and Breanna Schoeck Becthold.
