Darlene Gaffaney, age 89, of Belgrade, MN, and formerly of Villard, MN, died Sunday, July 16, 2017, at the Belgrade Nursing Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, July 20th at St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church in Villard with Fr. Joe Vandeberg officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home in Glenwood and will continue on Thursday at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Villard at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.

Darlene Josephine Gaffaney, the daughter of Henry and Theresa (Henning) Baumgartner was born May 25, 1928 in Fulda, Minnesota. She grew up on a farm near Fulda where she attended school and graduated from Fulda High School. 

On May 10, 1948, Darlene was united in marriage to Luverne Gaffaney at St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church in Villard. They made their home on a farm near Villard where they raised their family. Darlene and Luverne shared 32 years of marriage before Luverne passed away in 1980. 

Darlene was employed at Glenwood State Bank in Villard for 30 years. She was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church where she was the last surviving charter and honorary member of the Christian Mothers. She enjoyed cooking and in her younger years, she and Luverne enjoyed going dancing. She especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Darlene passed away July 16, 2017 at the Belgrade Nursing Home.

She is survived by her children: Dennis (Pat) Gaffaney of Willmar, Sharon Gaffaney of Irvine, CA, Dale (Kathy) Gaffaney of Bloomington, Lori (Tom) Osdoba of Eden Prairie and Larry (Wendy) Gaffaney of Glenwood; grandchildren: Nicole (Michael), Mark (fiancé Kim), Luke (Britt), Michelle, Paul, Drew (Caitlin), Dani (Jeff), Dana (fiancé John), Dustin, Paige, and Jill (Kevin); 5 great-grandchildren; sisters Evelyn Beckman of AZ and Ivadelle Strande of Minneapolis; brother, Adrian Baumgartner of Aitkin, MN; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Darlene is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Luverne Gaffaney; and sister, LaVonne Earle.
