Deborah Grundseth, age 69 of Brooten, died Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at South Lake Johanna Lutheran Church in rural Brooten. Visitation will be Friday, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Brooten and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in the South Lake Johanna Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Brooten.
Deborah Kay Sagedahl, the daughter of Sidney and Jane (Hanson) Sagedahl was born May 25, 1950 in Willmar, Minnesota. She grew up in Brooten and attended South Lake Johanna Lutheran Church in rural Brooten. Deb attended school in Brooten and graduated from Brooten High School. She then went on to further her education at Willmar State Jr. College in Willmar and then Moorhead State College in Moorhead. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology. Deb was employed at Douglas County Hospital as a medical technologist in Alexandria for 18 years, as well as other jobs until she began working as a paraprofessional for the Belgrade, Brooten, Elrosa High School. Deb loved working at the school and worked as a para for 19 years before she retired.
On September 25, 1982, Deb was united in marriage to Thomas H. Grundseth at South Lake Johanna Lutheran Church. After their marriage the couple made their home in Plymouth, Minnesota for three years before returning to Brooten in 1985. Deb and Tom were blessed with two children, Timothy and Marin. They shared 36 years of marriage.
Deb was an active member of South Lake Johanna Lutheran Church; she was the organist for 56 years, from 7th grade until the spring of 2019. She taught Sunday school, served at the president and secretary for the church council, was a member of WELCA and was treasurer of the cemetery association. She loved all sports, but especially loved playing softball, bowling and golfing. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, cooking, playing games and yo-yoing. She loved to cook and entertain for her family and friends, especially at the holidays. She will be remembered for her generous heart, her sense of humor and quick wit, unconditional love and dedication to church and her family, and her seemingly unending knowledge. Her biggest joy in life was spending time with her grandsons, Kameron and Liam.
Deb is survived by her husband, Thomas Grundseth; mother, Jane Sagedahl; son, Timothy Grundseth, all of Brooten; daughter, Marin (Josh Cretilli) Grundseth of Glenwood; grandsons: Kameron Grundseth and Liam Cretilli; sister, Denise (Edward) Backer of Lidgerwood, ND; brother, Daniel (Susan) Sagedahl of Brooten; brother-in-law, John Grundseth of Brooten; best friend, Ilene (Bob) Mortenson of Colorado Springs, CO; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Sidney Sagedahl; father and mother-in-law, Arthur and Ida Grundseth; nephew, Tyler Torkelson; sister-in-law, Dona Grundseth; grandparents and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
