Delores (Flatebo) Ewing, age 90, of Glenwood, died early Saturday, May 19th, at her home, surrounded by family and under the care of Glacial Ridge Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, June 4, 2018 at Living Word Lutheran Church in Alexandria, with Pastor A.J. Kluver officiating. Visitation will be at the church, one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Glenwood Lutheran Church Cemetery, Glenwood, MN, following the service and lunch. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.

Delores Ione Flatebo Ewing, the daughter of Hans and Selma (Netland) Flatebo was born in Willmar, MN on January 14, 1928. When she was three, her family moved to Storden, MN where her father worked on paving jobs and later became the manager of the Storden Locker Plant. When Delores was 12, they moved to Sunburg, MN, and when she was 16, they moved to Glenwood.  She attended school in Storden, Sunburg, Kerkoven, and Glenwood where she graduated from high school in 1946.

Delores worked at Olson’s Five & Dime Store, the Glenwood Creamery, and at Glenwood High School where she was secretary to the principal, Jack Carlson. In 1951, she met Robert Ewing, a young man working at the Creamery while waiting to be called into the Army. Robert was honorably discharged from the Army on December 26, 1953 and they were married on June 19, 1954 in Glenwood Lutheran Church by Rev. David J. Quill. Robert farmed and worked for an electrician in Glenwood. In 1956, they moved to a hobby farm and later Robert went into the electrical business for himself in Glenwood. Two daughters were born to them, Karen Marie and Peggy Ann.
Delores loved the outdoors, animals, skiing, ice skating, biking, gardening, and traveling. She and the family traveled most of the US in their truck and camper. Delores was a great fan of the Minnesota Gophers, Vikings, Timberwolves, and Lynx, watching them on TV. While in her 50s, she took up roller skating in the new rink in Glenwood where she learned to two-step and enjoyed it very much.  Through the years, she discovered she enjoyed baking. Her Norwegian heritage was very important to her and she baked many Scandinavian Wedding Cakes for people in the Glenwood area and far beyond. She was also active in the local farmers’ market and was a charter member of the Glenwood Farmers’ Market. Delores was a member of the “Friendly Get-Together Club” where she and her friends met once a month for over 50 years. She was a member of Glenwood Lutheran Church for many years, where she taught Sunday school and worked in the church. She was a guide at the Pope County Museum for several years and she and Robert were members of the Pope County Flyers.

Delores loved her family very much and enjoyed watching her daughters, and later her grandsons, grow up.  After Robert entered Lakeview Care Center in 2002, she moved to the Plaza in Glenwood, where she continued to reside until the time of her death.

Delores is survived by her two daughters, Karen (John) Kirckof of Glenwood, and Peggy (John) Carroll of Saratoga, CA; two grandsons, John (Kari) Ewing Carroll of San Francisco, CA, and Robert Patrick Carroll of Alameda, CA; as well as her sister-in-law, Emma Jean Bowen, of Glenwood.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents, and husband Robert, who passed away March 12, 2008 in Glenwood.
