Dorothy Wagner Hoplin Obituary

Dorothy Alice Wagner Hoplin, age 91 of Glenwood, died Friday, June 21, 2019 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, June 25th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood with Father Joe Vandeberg officiating. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 24th at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in St. John Nepomuk Catholic Cemetery (Reno Catholic Church) in rural Lowry. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Dorothy Alice Dynda was born on Aug 6, 1927 to Joseph and Lillian (Koubsky) Dynda on the family farm in Lake Mary Township near Alexandria, MN. She attended District 13 country school and was the Douglas County Spelling Bee Champion as an 8th grader. This award won her a trip to the Minnesota State Fair and a competition there. In her teen years she played the piano in her Dad’s dance band along with her dad and two brothers.

On Oct 23, 1945, Dorothy was united in marriage to Phil Wagner at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria. They lived in Parkers Prairie and Alexandria before settling in Lowry in 1948. Phil owned a livestock trucking line and Lowry is where they raised their family. Phil died in Oct 1960 leaving Dorothy a widow at 33 years old with seven kids to raise.

On Oct 18, 1980, Dorothy married Glenn Hoplin and they moved to Glenwood. Glenn died in Jun 2012 and Dorothy moved into an independent living apartment. In Oct 2018 Dorothy moved into Ridgewood Villa in Glenwood where she lived until her passing.

Dorothy was preceded in death by husbands Phil Wagner and Glenn Hoplin, son Timothy Wagner, her parents and brothers Robert and Don.

Dorothy is survived by her sons: Merle (Bonnie), Bruce (Terri), Gordy (Ann), and Kevin – all of Glenwood, daughters: Eileen (John/Butch) Holtberg of Little Falls and Suzanne Schurr of Plymouth, MN. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Molly (Mark) Skaar, Matt (Andrea) Wagner, Troy Wagner (Laura Paleveda), Nicole (Mark) Meyer, Jamie (Clay) Lipke, Joelle (Shannon) Gwost and Kinsey Schurr. Also eleven great-grandchildren: Leah and Andrew Skaar, Michael, Maggie and Maddie Wagner, Jackson, Issac, and Carter Meyer, Becker Lipke, and Kennedy and Hudsyn Gwost. Other survivors include a sister Lonnie Danielson of Farwell, sister-in-law Sophia Ward of St Joseph, MO and step children David (Carol) Hoplin and Beth Estes and four step grandchildren Matthew (Jane) Hoplin, Sarah Hoplin, Jonathan Estes and David Estes and three step great-grandchildren Anna, Daniel, and Emily Hoplin.
