Evelyn H. Boogaard

Evelyn Boogaard, age 91, of Osakis, died Sunday, November 4, 2018 at the Glenwood Retirement Village. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 10th at St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church in Villard. Parish Prayers and rosary will be prayed at 4:30 with visitation from 5:00-8:00 P.M. on Friday, Nov. 9th at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood and visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Evelyn Helen Rutten, the daughter of Joseph and Katherine (Dykhoff) Rutten, was born at home in Butler, MN, on July 19, 1927. She was baptized, received first communion and was confirmed at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Butler. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school in Butler. Evelyn married William (Bill) Boogaard on October 10, 1950 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, in Butler. They were blessed with seven children, three daughters and four sons.

They first lived in Minneota, MN where Bill was working in construction with his brother. They then moved to a farm south of Minneota where they lived until 1955 when a tornado destroyed their farmhouse and buildings. Bill and Evelyn then moved to a farm near Porter, MN where they lived until March of 1960, when they moved to the farm they bought south of Osakis, MN.

Evelyn farmed with her husband their entire married life. She was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Villard and belonged to the Christian Mothers, Extension Homemaker Club, and the Northside Birthday Club.  Evelyn loved gardening, riding the 4-wheeler, watching the birds at her feeders, playing cards, traveling and mostly, being with family and friends.

Evelyn’s family has known for some time that she wanted to move on to her reward for a life well-lived and that is exactly what she did on the evening of Sunday, November 4th. In true Evelyn fashion, she did it her way; with no complaining, a lot of acceptance, and appreciation for all who cared for her, visited her, thought of her, and prayed for her. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by three daughters: Carol (Ralph) Gaffaney of Alexandria, MN; JoAnn (Terry) Bot of Glenwood, MN; and Donna (Gary) Dold of St. Cloud, MN; four sons: Bob (Betty); Dave (Krystal), Ken (Barb) all of Osakis and Ron (special friend Melissa) of Belgrade, MN, 14 grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one sister, Cathy (Merlyn) Hotvedt, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bill in 2002; her parents; four brothers, Charles, Clarence, Albert and Lester Rutten; and sister, Rosella Boogaard.

Casket bearers were her grandsons, Brian and Alan Gaffaney, Mark, Doug, Eric and Chris Bot, Greg Dold, Tim, Josh and James Boogaard.
