Herbert Lowell Tweit was born on March 25, 1926, the first son of Henry and Lajla (Melby) Tweit. He was born at his parent’s home located just a couple of miles from the farm that he would move to with his parents and sisters, Beatrice and Eunice when he was four years old. Herbert spent his entire life on the current homestead.
Herbert was baptized, confirmed and a lifelong, devoted member of Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church in Terrace, MN. He also represented Chippewa Falls Township on the Glacial Ridge Hospital Board for many years.
His love and lifelong dedication to farming was admirable; his work ethic exemplified his legacy. His passion for the horses, cows and pigs gave him much joy and pride. He was a determined 4-H mentor who led his children and grandchildren to fully embrace the pledge of Head, Heart, Hands, and Health. Just to be clear, it is Allis not Deere…
Herbert’s family was of utmost importance. He encouraged and supported his children and grandchildren’s sports and music performances; they were a highlight of his days. Herbert and June enjoyed downhill skiing with the family and his friends. He and June loved to light up the dance floor at the Lakeside Ballroom. He enjoyed “visiting” with just about anyone.
Herbert married June Kay on May 2, 1953. They are the parents of 6 children, 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Grandpa Tweit loved the little ones!
Herbert is survived by June, his wife of 65 years; two sons, Jeff (LuAnn) of Glenwood, Eric (Sean) of Seattle, WA; three daughters, Jamie (Paul) Tjernagel of California, Joan (Steve) Dubbs of Maple Grove, and Heidi (Chris) Wilkins of Glenwood; 9 grandchildren: Stephanie, Emily, Justine, Franny, Gustav, Gunnar, Cody, Lajla and Henry; and four great grandchildren, Larsen, Isaac, Noah and Ellis; one sister, Eunice Blair of Glenwood; two brothers, Delbert (Linda) and Alward (Karen); and many nieces and nephews.
Herbert was preceded in death by his son, Kent, his parents, and his sisters, Beatrice Nyhammer and June Keith.
