Jean Arlys Hagen was born in Chokio, MN, on January 6, 1940, to Harold and Mildred (Wade) Hagen. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Chokio. She attended country school through 8th grade and then Chokio High School, where she loved participating in dramas, speech, tumbling and playing her clarinet in the band. Jean graduated from Chokio High School with the Class of 1958 and then attended Willmar School of Nursing, where she earned her LPN degree in 1959.

In October 1959, Jean married Allen Pritchard. They made their home on a farm east of Lowry and their marriage was blessed with four children, Jeff, Jodi, Troy, and Melissa. Besides being a farm wife, Jean worked as a nurse at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood. Jean and Allen eventually divorced. On July 23, 1988, she married Ray Schultz at Indherred Lutheran Church near Starbuck, MN. They lived on a hobby farm south of Lowry, where they raised chickens and sheep, and Jean continued her nursing career at Glacial Ridge Hospital. Jean and Ray enjoyed 15 years of marriage before he passed away in January of 2004. After Ray’s death, Jean continued to reside on their farm until October of 2017, when she moved to Cold Spring, MN, to be closer to family.

Jean thoroughly enjoyed her nursing career. Her attentive, kind and caring manner made her a wonderful nurse. She felt blessed to have worked 46 ½ years at Glacial Ridge Hospital before her retirement in 2007. Retirement gave her more time to enjoy her lifelong hobbies of bowling, fishing, knitting, reading, and playing cards. She also enjoyed gardening, growing both produce and beautiful flowers.

Jean was surrounded by family when she passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 10, 2019, at Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Augusta, MN. Her family is very grateful that she was able to spend her last days under the experienced care of the excellent staff at Quiet Oaks.

Jean is survived by her four children, Jeff (Ruthie) Pritchard of Aurora, CO, Jodi (Melissa Mazur) Pritchard of Minneapolis, Troy Pritchard of Coral Springs, FL, and Melissa (Earl) Rapp of Cold Spring; three granddaughters, Allison (Thomas) Hunt, Emily and Rebecca Rapp; three step-children,three step-children, Rosalie McLouden, Marlene Kane, and Eugene (Andrea) Schultz; 10 step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Mildred; her husband, Ray; one sister, Marion Hanson; four brothers, Gerald, Gordon and James Hagen, and infant brother, Curtis Hagen; her infant grandson, Anthony Rapp; and step-daughter Donna Vennie.
