JoAnn Harriet Visser, the daughter of Hubert and Adeline (Den Hartog) Visser, was born on October 17, 1931, in Hawarden, Iowa. She was welcomed home by her big brother, Kenneth. JoAnn’s family was involved in farming and during her childhood they lived on different farms in the Hawarden area. When JoAnn was 17, her family moved to Chamberlain, South Dakota. It was there, on February 1, 1949, that JoAnn wed Wilfred “Doc” Lintel, a recently returned WWII solider. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Rick, Barb, and Gail. The couple made their home in Sioux City, Iowa, until September of 1949, when they moved to Kennebec, South Dakota, to be near JoAnn’s family. In March of 1955, JoAnn’s parents, her brother, Kenneth and his wife, Lois, all moved to the Brooten, Minnesota area. Doc and JoAnn followed, settling on a farm near Brooten, where they lived until 1964, when they moved to their home in Brooten. Following Doc’s death in in 2010, JoAnn continued to reside in the home until her death.

After moving to Brooten, JoAnn enrolled at Willmar Community College, where she earned an Associates of Applied Science degree. She then accepted a position with the Brooten School District, where she worked as the Business Manager for 36 years before her retirement.

JoAnn and Doc shared a love of travel, which took them all over the United States and Europe. One year they hosted a Swedish Exchange Student, which they really enjoyed. She was a wonderful cook and she enjoyed crocheting, reading, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She and Doc were longtime members of the Christian Reformed Church in Brooten, now known as Brooten Community Church.

JoAnn was known for her strength and determination. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother as well as a woman of strong faith. She died early on Saturday morning, June 29, 2019, at Glacial Ridge Hospital, having lived to the age of 87 years. Blessed be her memory.
