Judith A. (Engelhardt) McCann

Judith A. McCann, age 70 of Starbuck, died Friday, January 11, 2019 at the St. Cloud Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 17th at Glenwood United Parish in Glenwood with Pastor Laura Nordstrom officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Judith Ann Engelhardt, daughter of Philmon and Margaret (Palas) Engelhardt, was born on December 7, 1948 in Waukon, Iowa. She grew up on a farm near Waukon with her sister and four brothers. Judith attended school in Waukon and was a graduate of Waukon Senior High School. After high school, she moved to Minneapolis, where she pursued a technical college degree, training for a career as a flight attendant.

On March 2, 1968, Judith was united in marriage to William “Bill” Richard McCann in Waukon. They made their home in Glenwood, MN, where Judith worked at the Glenwood Hospital. In 1991, the couple, and daughter, Jennifer, moved to Marshall. While living in Marshall, Judith worked at Walmart for 13 years and was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church.

In recent years, Judith was a member of the Red Hat Society. She served as a lay pastor and volunteer at the churches where she was a member. She was a former member of the Jaycee’s and served as a Den Mother and Girl Scout leader when her children were young.

Judith enjoyed doing ceramics, rubber stamping, reading, coloring and spending time with her grandchildren. She will be remembered for always showing compassion to others and for treating her friends like family.

Judith’s husband, Bill, died December 22, 2016. Judith has most recently been living with her daughter’s family in Starbuck, MN. She died, unexpectedly, at the St. Cloud Hospital on Friday, January 11, 2019. Blessed be her memory.

Judith is survived by her son, Kevin McCann of San Diego, CA, and her daughter, Jennifer Jo McCann of Starbuck; six grandchildren, Brandon, Alatera, Haley, Garrett, Mackenzie, and Isaiah; one sister, Kay; four brothers, Ronald, Wayne, John, and Laverne; and special friends, RuthAnne and John Schmidt, Jane Jenum, Lesley Walters, and Matt and Maryann Scherr.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Philmon and Margaret Engelhardt; her husband, William “Bill” McCann; a daughter, Jody Marie, in infancy.
