Mildred Elaine Torkelson, daughter of Ingvald and Oline (Torkelson) Torkelson, was born on August 10, 1927, in Minneapolis, MN. As an infant, Millie was baptized in the Lutheran faith. She attended school through the sixth grade in Kandiyohi before moving to Brooten in 1940, where she completed the last two years of grade school in District 13. In 1945, Millie was confirmed at West Lake Johanna Lutheran Church. As a young lady, she worked at various farms in the Brooten area.

On January 11, 1947, Millie married Clifford Ogdahl at the Barsness Lutheran Church parsonage. The first ten years of their marriage they farmed near Terrace, before moving to Glenwood in 1957. Their marriage was blessed with three boys, Raymond, Dale, and Dean, and a daughter, Shelly, who died in infancy. Millie was a strong and capable woman, balancing childrearing and homemaking while Cliff’s work often required extended travel away from home. Throughout the years she also worked various jobs in Glenwood, including 7 years at the V Store and then at local cafes, before accepting a secretarial position at Dave Tostenson’s State Farm Insurance Agency. Millie retired after 21 years with State Farm and then kept herself busy by volunteering at the Glenwood Senior Center for a number of years.

Millie enjoyed dancing, playing cards and baking. She was a skilled lefse maker and did needlework, making doilies, bedspreads and tablecloths. In recent years, she and Cliff liked going out for meals, often meeting friends for breakfast at the Gingerbread House.

Millie was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer in November. She died at Glacial Ridge Hospital on Sunday, December 30th, at the age of 91 years. Blessed be her memory.

Millie is survived by her husband of 71 years, Clifford Ogdahl of Glenwood, two sons, Raymond of Milbank, SD, and Dean of Sandstone; 8 grandchildren, Mark (Crystle  Gehring) Ogdahl of Aberdeen, SD, Greg (Robyn) Ogdahl of St. Joseph, MO, Rebecca (Jeffrey) Schuurmans of Sioux Falls, SD, Michelle (Jamie) Pullman of St. Joseph, Matt (Tonya) Ogdahl of Brooten, Steve Ogdahl (Samantha Ross) of Minneapolis, Scott (Tracy) Ogdahl of Starbuck, and Autumn Ogdahl of Barnum; 10 great-grandchildren, Taylor (Travis) Swisher, Brady, Madison, Samantha, Jenna, Jesse, Carter, Nick, Danielle, Alyssa, Kenzie Mataya, Jake, Henley, and Irelynne Ogdahl, Dylan and Dru Stengel, Bentley and Jacee Schuurmans; 1 great-great granddaughter, Molly Swisher; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
