Stella E. Vollrath, age 96 of Glenwood, died Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at the Glenwood Retirement Village. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Glenwood United Parish with Pastor Laura Nordstrom officiating. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Stella Edna Vollrath, the daughter of John and Alma (Klug) Ziegler, was born February 24, 1921 in Glenwood. She grew up on Soo Hill in Glenwood and attended school, graduating from Glenwood High School. She was a member of Glenwood United Parish.

On November 21, 1942 she was united in marriage to Marvin Vollrath at the Glenwood Congregational Church. The couple made their home in Glenwood, where they continued to live their entire lives. Stella and Marvin shared 43 years of marriage before Marvin passed away in 1985.

Stella was an active member of the Congregational Church, which became Glenwood United Parish. She enjoyed painting, quilting and traveled extensively. She will be remembered as a  loving wife and mother who had a large role in raising her family while her husband was gone working on the Soo Line Railroad. She especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Stella is survived by her sons: James Vollrath of Alexandria and Robert Vollrath of Cambridge, MA; granddaughters, Ann (fiancé Mike Lillehaugen) Vollrath and Sarah (David) Peterson; great-grandchildren: Madison, Meaghan and Myah; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sisters, Alice Solive and Esther Westad.
