Steve M. Hemstad, age 76, of Brooten, died unexpectedly on Monday, June 10, 2019, at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Chapel in Brooten. Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Brooten, and will continue Saturday one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Brooten.
Steve M Hemstad, son of Maurice B. Hemstad and Bernice Bogan Hemstad, was born in Montevideo, MN on June 14, 1942. Steve grew up in Montevideo and graduated from Montevideo High School. In 1962, he married MaryLou Grove. They moved to Circle Pines, MN and raised 3 children, Julie, Jon and Bill.
Steve was a kind man who loved life and his family. After he retired from his work as a carpenter, he took up many hobbies, including golf, which he enjoyed playing with friends (he had scored an impressive 3 hole-in-ones!), fishing, and painting landscapes on canvas with oils.
Steve and MaryLou looked forward to wintering each year in Parker, AZ. Whether he was in Minnesota or Arizona, Steve enjoyed time spent with friends and family.
Steve died June 10, 2019 unexpectedly, at the age of 76. He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.
Steve is survived by his wife of 56 years, MaryLou of Brooten; his mother Bernice Bogan Hemstad, his daughter, Julie (Calvin); and two sons, Jon (Lisa) and Bill (Heather); 8 grandchildren, Susan, Tanya, Heather, Reno, Maria, Rikki, Brandon and Nicole; and 5 great-grandchildren; and a brother Max (Marcy) Hemstad.
He was preceded in death by his father Maurice B. Hemstad and brother, Reno Hemstad.
