Obituary

Alden W. Olson, age 81 of Starbuck, died Thursday, December 26, 2013 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 30th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood with Father Michael Wolfbauer officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Tuesday, December 31st at 11:30 a.m. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. Alden Willis Olson, the son of Roy and Violet (Anderson) Olson was born May 19, 1932 in Trade Lake, Wisconsin. Alden entered the United States Army on August 5, 1952 and served his country during the Korean War.  He was awarded the Korean Service Ribbon with a Bronze Service Star, the National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.  He was honorably discharged on July 20, 1954. Alden was a long time resident of Coon Rapids, Minnesota. He worked 37 + years as a bricklayer.  In Coon Rapids he was a charter and active member of the Epiphany Catholic Church.  He lived the last nine years in Starbuck, Minnesota. Needing help with his daily care he recently became a resident of the Glenwood Retirement Village.  He passed away December 26, 2013 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood. Alden is survived by his wife Barbara Olson of Starbuck; children: Tim (Peggy) Olson of Anoka, MN and their children Jessica and Tim Jr.; Scott (Denise) Olson of Ramsey, MN and their children, Bethany, Emily and Michael; Randy Olson (Warren Mercier) of Vancouver, BC; Lisa Smith of Martinez, CA and her son, Ethan; and Cheryl Olson of San Ramon, CA; step-children: Tim Hartfiel of Starbuck, MN; Christine Hartfiel (Phil Hoch) of Apple Valley, MN and their son, Christopher; Jenny (David) Decker of Starbuck, MN and their children Kendall and Sarah; John (Debbie) Hartfiel of Coon Rapids, MN and their son Logan; Andrew (Adriana) Hartfiel of Waseca, MN and their children, Blendyer and Nathan; six great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by Theresa Olson; his parents; and brothers, Lyle, Robert, Harlan, Donald and Richard.
