Beatrice Nyhammer, age 92, of Glenwood died Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Glenwood Village Care Center in Glenwood. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, November 11 th at Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church in Terrace with Pastor Bonnie Lomen officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Beatrice Margaret Nyhammer, the daughter of Henry and Lajla (Melby) Tweit was born October 28, 1924 in Chippewa Falls Township, Pope County, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church in Terrace. Beatrice attended country school in District 24 and graduated from Glenwood High School. She completed Normal Training and taught in School District 78.
On June 3, 1944, she was united in marriage to Christopher A. R. Nyhammer. Christopher was in the United States Marines and after his discharge in 1946, Beatrice and Christopher returned to Sedan and purchased a farm where they lived and raised their family. They shared 57 years of marriage before Christopher passed away January 1, 2002.
Beatrice was a homemaker and was actively involved in church and community organizations. She volunteered at the Glenwood Retirement Village, which turned into being employed there for over 20 years working in the activities department. She was a very active member of Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church, holding various offices and helping with the ladies aid. She was also a member of the American Legion Post #187 and the Sons of Norway.
Throughout her life she enjoyed attending the various school sports and activities of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid seamstress, often creating her own patterns and designs. She loved cooking and baking, along with genealogy, scrapbooking, reading, music and quilting. Beatrice will be remembered for being a loving caregiver and always extending grace. She passed away November 6, 2016 at the Glenwood Village Care Center in Glenwood.
She is survived by her sons: Robert (Jean) Nyhammer of Glenwood, Chris Nyhammer of Glenwood, David (Cary) Nyhammer of Carson City, NV, and Brad (Cindy) Nyhammer of Glenwood; daughter, Louise Nyhammer of Glenwood; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Eunice Blair of Glenwood; brothers, Herbert (June) Tweit of Glenwood, Delbert (Toni) Tweit of Knoxville, MD, Alward (Karen) Tweit of Sunriver, OR; brother-in-law, Alden (Barb) Nyhammer of Ham Lake, MN; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Beatrice is preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son, Mark; and sister, June Keith.
