Obituary

Bernice Cretilli, age 87 of Glenwood, died at home under the care of hospice, on Wednesday, October 23, 2013.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 2nd at 12:00 p.m. (noon) at the Minnewaska Lutheran Church in Starbuck with Rev. Todd Klemme officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Inurnment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Glenwood.  Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. Bernice Ione Cretilli, the daughter of Hans and Clara (Dokken) Aaberg was born November 25, 1925 in rural Benson, Minnesota.  She grew up on a farm and attended Fron Lutheran Church.  She attended country school in the Starbuck/Benson area. On May 18, 1947, Bernice was united in marriage to Stephen Anthony "Tony" Cretilli in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  They made their home in Minneapolis and lived there for many years before moving to Glenwood.  This marriage was blessed with five children.  Bernice and Tony shared 51 years of marriage before Tony died on December 13, 1998. Bernice enjoyed playing the piano and other musical instruments, along with dancing, drawing and singing.  She will be remembered for her love for the Lord and her ability to make loved ones laugh.  Bernice died October 23, 2013 at her home in Glenwood. She is survived by her son, Dan (Wendy) Cretilli of Brooklyn Center, MN; daughters, Trudy Mady of Glenwood, MN; Diane (Greg) Olson of Brooklyn Park, MN, and Tami (Bob) Nay of Glenwood; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter, Lexi Ione; sister, Ruby (Ervin) VanKempen of Starbuck; brother, Norman Aaberg of Blaine, MN; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tony; son, Thomas "Tom" Cretilli; sisters, Gladys Ward, Dorothy Aaberg, Florence Swenson, Myrtle Lee and Cora Hoium; and her brothers, Harris, Arvin and Warren Aaberg.
