Bernice Mavis Hubred Mix, age 82, of Great Falls, MT, and former longtime Glenwood resident, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 9th, at Glenwood United Parish, with Pastor Jeff Ozanne officiating. Visitation will be at the church on the morning of the service beginning at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery, Kensington, MN.
Bernice Mavis Alsaker, the daughter of John and Myrtle (Rierson) Alsaker was born February 26, 1932, in Gilchrist Township, Pope County, MN. She and her four siblings grew up and attended school in Glenwood.
Bernice was employed at J & B Bowl, J & B Café and most recently was the cook at the Glenwood Senior Center for over 30 years.
On November 10, 1949, Bernice was united in marriage to Joseph Hubred. This marriage was blessed with two children, James and Jan. Bernice and Joseph made their home in Glenwood. They shared 41 years of marriage before Joseph passed away, January 24, 1991.
On December 27, 1995, Bernice was united in marriage to long-time friend, Kenneth Mix in Central City, CO. Ken's 6 children from his previous marriage then became part of Bernice's family. Bernice and Kenneth made their home in Glenwood. They shared 12 years of marriage before Kenneth passed away on August 10, 2008.
Bernice was a member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliary for many years, and held various offices in these organizations. She enjoyed playing bingo, baking, puzzles, going to casinos, card games and traveling. She especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered as a talented cook and baker and for making all of the cafés she worked at over her 40 year career "the best café in Glenwood", her ability to make people laugh and the enjoyment she got from playing with her grandchildren.
Bernice is survived by her children, James (Pamela) Hubred of Flagstaff, AZ and Jan (John) Laughlin of Great Falls, MT; grandchildren: Travis Hubred, Dustin Hubred, Philip Laughlin, Addie Stevens, Kevin Laughlin, Savana Stevens, Shanna Laughlin, Anna Laughlin, Josie Laughlin and Joseph Laughlin; 5 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Marlys Mithun, Donna (Herman) Mithun and Inez Stoneburg, all of Glenwood; one brother, Donald Alsaker of Bloomington, MN; step-children, step grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Joseph Hubred; second husband, Kenneth Mix; a son, Joseph Hubred, Jr.; a granddaughter, Britaney Stevens; 2 brothers-in-law; and one sister-in-law.
The family of Bernice would like to thank the family of Kenny Mix for welcoming our mother into their family. She loved all of you very much. To any and all we may have unintentionally missed, thank you for touching her life.
