Obituary

Betty Ann Baune, age 85, of Glenwood, died of an unexpected medical event at her home on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Lucan, with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.

Betty Ann Baune was born on July 17, 1940, in Redwood Falls, Minnesota, to Henry and Frances (Frericks) Baune. She was one of eight children and grew up in Lucan, where she learned the values of hard work, faith, and family that guided her throughout her life.

Betty was raised in the Catholic faith at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Lucan. She attended school in Milroy and graduated from high school in 1958. Following her graduation, she moved to Redwood Falls where she worked for the telephone company, then she moved to St. Paul, where she continued her long and dedicated career with Northwestern Bell Telephone, later known as US West. She worked there for 40 years, building lasting friendships and earning the respect of those who knew her. Betty approached her work with commitment and dependability, and she took pride in the many years she spent serving others through her profession.

After retiring, Betty moved to Glenwood, where she purchased a home and enjoyed being close to family. She embraced this new chapter of life with the same spirited and adventurous nature that had always defined her.

Betty was a Christian and lived her faith in quiet, steady ways through the kindness she showed to others and the care she gave to those around her. Her hobbies included quilting, gardening, genealogy, collecting recipes, and traveling. Above all, she enjoyed visiting with family and spending time in the company of those closest to her.

Betty will be remembered for the love she had for her family and for her beloved dog, Emma, and her two cats.  Her spirited, adventurous, and selfless nature touched the lives of all who knew her before her unexpected passing at the age of 85 at her home in Glenwood on June 10, 2026.

Betty is survived by a sister, Phyllis (Richard) Holt of Florence, AZ; a brother, Roman (Shirley) Baune of Redwood Falls; a sister-in-law, June Baune also of Redwood Falls; along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Frances; two sisters, Arlene (John) Van Heuveln and Dorothy "Dori" (Jim) Olson; three brothers, Merlin, Jerome "Jim", and LaVerne (Eleanor); as well as a niece, Karen Schriefels.
