Betty Lou Lacktorin, age 70 of rural Brooten, died in her home surrounded by family, under the care of hospice, Saturday, November 1, 2014. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5th at Hope Lutheran Church in Sunburg, MN. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5-7 p.m. at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood and will continue one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Betty Lou Lacktorin, the daughter of Benny and Mayrene (Paulson) Estby was born September 30, 1944 in Glenwood, Minnesota. She grew up around the rural Brooten area where she attended school and graduated from Brooten High School. She later furthered her education at Nomandale Community College in Bloomington.
On August 31, 1963, Betty Lou was united in marriage to John Lacktorin. The couple spent their first married years living in Newhall, California. Betty Lou and John then made their home in the rural Brooten area where she owned and operated the Lake Johanna Store in the early 1970s overlooking Ordway Prairie. Betty Lou and John then moved to Albert Lea for a few years before settling in Bloomington, MN. They moved back to the Brooten area a few years before John passed away in December 2007. Betty Lou continued to live in her Lake Johanna home.
Betty Lou was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Sunburg. She was an avid rock hound collecting stones, minerals and agates as a lifelong pastime. She enjoyed jewelry making and sharing her creations in arts and crafts. Betty Lou will be remembered for being a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her son, Shad (Kim) Lacktorin; daughter, Bethany Lacktorin; grandson, Caleb Lacktorin; sisters: Margaret Locke, Beverly Whales, and Dorothy Wood; brothers, Wayne Estby , Jarnell Estby, Obert Estby Andrew Estby and Charles Estby.
Betty Lou is preceded in death by her parents, Benny and Mayrene Estby and husband, John Lacktorin.
