Carl "Bud" Sudbrink, age 84, of Glenwood, died Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 13 th at Glenwood United Parish. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the church, Glenwood United Parish with a Masonic service at 7 pm. Visitation will also continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Inurnment will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, MN at 9:00 A.M. on Thursday. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Carl "Bud" Leslie Sudbrink, the son of Harold and Ruth (Reynolds) Sudbrink, was born on December 6, 1931, in Albany, New York. He grew up in Chicago, IL, where he attended public schools and graduated from Lane Tech High School in 1949. He attended Monmouth College in Monmouth, IL, for two years before enlisting in the U.S. Army, serving from June 25, 1953, until his honorable discharge on April 25, 1954. His first job after leaving the service was at Phoenix Dye Works in Chicago, where he worked as a textile dyer for two years. On November 17, 1956, he was united in marriage to Julia Joan "Jo" Blythe at Union Church in La Harpe, IL. The two first made their home in Cleveland, OH. In 1959, they moved to Berea, OH, and in March of 1964 they moved to Cherry Hill, NJ, where they lived until 1978 when they moved to Fridley, MN, before retiring to a home along Lake Minnewaska in Glenwood, MN in 1981. Bud and Jo were blessed with 3 children, Carl, Ava and Joy and the two shared 42 years of marriage before her death on August 15, 1999.
On May 3, 2003, Carl was united in marriage to Delores "Lori" (Thompson) Johnson in Petersburg, ND. Following their marriage, Lori moved to Bud's house in Glenwood.
Bud enjoyed building and flying model airplanes, H.O. trains, bowling, fishing, boating, and woodworking. He also built and maintained an impressive collection of fish aquariums consisting of 15 fresh water (salt water) tanks. He was a member of Glenwood United Parish, as well as the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, American Legion, VFW and other civic and social organizations.
Bud's family will remember him as being very respectful and loyal. He was also a very social person, with a passion for history, and very detail orientated. Bud died on January 9, 2016, at Glacial Ridge Hospital, having lived to the age of 84 years. Blessed be his memory.
Bud is survived by his wife, Delores Sudbrink of Glenwood; a son, Carl Warren (Shirley) Sudbrink of Calhan, CO; two daughters, Ava (Kenneth) Seibert of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Joy Sudbrink of Cambridge, MN; three step-sons, James (Linda), Daniel (Mary), and Robert Johnson; a step-daughter, Julie Johnson; grandchildren, Joshua Scott, Kendra Seibert and Anna (Aaron) Dale; great-grandchildren; Vincent Dale, Olivia Dale, Zavier Dale, Rylee Seibert, Syriana Scott; 7 step-grandchildren; a special cousin, Donna Bologna.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Julia "Jo" Blythe Sudbrink; a step-sister, Judy Krambeer; a special cousin, Richard Adams; and close family friend, Dona June Furon.
