Charles Joseph Walker, the son of Lawrence and Mabel (McQueen) Walker was born December 29, 1932 in Lake Leven Township, Minnesota. He was born and raised on a farm near Villard and attended and graduated from Villard Public School. He entered the United States Army Reserve and served his country before being honorably discharged in June of 1963.
Charles was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Marion Walther on April 6, 1952. They made their home in a small cabin at the family farm, later moving into Villard. Charlie started his own plumbing/heating/carpentry business in town, having built many of the houses still standing in Villard. He later switched to plumbing/heating and excavating. His son, Joe continues to operate the family business. Charlie also owned and rented out many homes and trailers in Villard and Alexandria. He also worked as the Chief of Police in Villard for many years.
Charlie enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially loved spending time at the cabin on Lake Leven that he built when he was 16 years old and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Villard American Legion, and a life long member of the Villard United Methodist Church. He entertained many friends at his coffee shop down at the barn and loved to be outdoors.
Charlie fought a courageous battle these last two years with diabetes, bilateral leg amputations and blindness. Most recently, Charlie suffered from pneumonia and a blood infection. He resided at Bethany Community Home in Alexandria until his death on his 81st birthday, December 29, 2013. He was ready to go see his 2 sons, Allan and Larry in heaven and expect that he is pain free, peaceful, running foot races in his "new life."
Charles is survived by his wife, Marion Walker of Sauk Center; son, Joseph (Deb) Walker of Villard; daughter, Carol (Mike) Denny of Sauk Centre; 6 grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Beatrice Walker of Villard and Sue Walker of Alexandria; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
