Cleo J. Holtberg, age 68, of Glenwood, died Friday, March 24, 2017 at the St. Cloud Hospital surrounded by her family. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, March 31st at Indherred Lutheran Church in rural Starbuck, with Pastor Paul Johnson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at a later date in the church cemetery. Arrangements are with the Hoplin- Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Cleo J. Green, daughter of Jack and Alice (Mix) Green, was born on October 4, 1948, in Ely, Nevada. She grew up on a farm near Leader, MN, where she and her family were members of Leader Lutheran Church. As a young girl, she attended school in Swan Valley and at Leader Country School before graduating from Motley High School. Cleo went on to further her education at Wadena Technical School, where she earned a degree in cosmetology.
On May 18, 1969, Cleo was united in marriage to Mark Holtberg at Glenwood Lutheran Church. The couple first made their home in Glenwood, where Cleo was employed at Glenwood Retirement Village in the dietary department for 40 years. Their marriage was blessed with three daughters, Nancy, Shelly, and Kayla.
In 1974, Cleo and Mark moved to their current home in rural Glenwood. There Cleo raised vegetable and flower gardens and enjoyed watching the wildlife and birds. She also enjoyed reading, canning the produce she raised, as well as making homemade wine and baking. She was an avid quilter and a member and officer of Lakes Area Quilters in Alexandria and Bit's and Pieces Quilting in Starbuck. Over the years Cleo lovingly made and shared her quilts with family and friends.
Cleo will be remembered for her ability to make people feel valued and loved. She so enjoyed the time she got to spend with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating many special memories that each of them will always hold dear.
Cleo was diagnosed with cancer in February of 2017. She died on Friday, March 24, 2017, at the St. Cloud Hospital, surrounded by her family. Blessed be her memory.
Cleo is survived by her husband of nearly 48 years, Mark Holtberg of Glenwood; their three daughters, Nancy (Mike) McShane of Albertville, Shelly (Scott) Anderson of Hoffman, and Kayla (Mike) Sorlie of Alexandria; five grandchildren, Eden Sorlie, Colin Anderson, Vienna (John) Hansen, Sierra Hastings, and Whitney McShane; two great-grandchildren, Madison Price and Sawyer Hansen; a sister, Mary (Robert) Smith; and two brothers, Ed (Colleen) Shequen and Harold Shequen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Green and Alice Mix Shequen, two brothers, Roger Shequen and Myron Green.
