Obituary

Clifford Terhaar, age 88 of Lowry, died Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at Lakeview Good Samaritan Center in Glenwood.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 8th at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in rural Lowry.  Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7th with Parish Prayers and a Rosary at 6:45 p.m. at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.  Visitation will also continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Catholic Relief Service.  Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. Clifford A. Terhaar the son of Ben and Anna (Zenner) Terhaar was born at home on a farm near Buckman, Minnesota.  He attended school in Buckman until his family moved to Elrosa, then Grove Lake and finally settled in Sedan, MN.  He attended Glenwood High School. On May 17, 1948, Clifford was united in marriage to Gloria Weimerskirch at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Belgrade, MN.  After their marriage, the couple made their home and Clifford farmed near Sedan.  Clifford and Gloria purchased a farm and moved to Lowry in 1951.  This marriage was blessed with nine children. Clifford served on the Lowry Creamery Board, the ASCS Office and on the Ben Wade Township Board for 23 years.  He was an active member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church where he served as a trustee, was on the parish council and taught CCD classes.  He was a member of the Lowry Lions and Lowry Senior Citizens. Clifford enjoyed angling and spearing for fish. He continued to help out on the farm that his son, Paul, bought from him. Clifford also appreciated conversations with friends and family. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gloria Terhaar of Lowry; children: Jeanne Terhaar of Hopkins, Deloris Staffanson of Apple Valley, Lavonne (Michael) Sparks of North Branch, Sharon Tauber of Mound, Gary (Sue) Terhaar of Blaine, Mark Terhaar of St. Joseph, Paul (Roberta) Terhaar of Lowry, Dale Terhaar of Minneapolis and Karl (Jody) Terhaar of St. Joseph; grandchildren: Kristin Staffanson, Tara (Shawn) Rafftery, Robert Sparks, Melissa Boschek, Ann Tauber, Amy (Rob) Dykoski, Leeja Miller, Brian Terhaar, Jason (fiancé Lindsey Wilker) Terhaar, Elissa Terhaar, Joseph Terhaar, Riley Terhaar, Jeremy Terhaar, Justin Terhaar and Rachel Terhaar; great-grandchildren: Aric, Nathan, Alex, Zoe, McKenzie, Emily, Marek, Tobin and Jamilla; brothers: Gerald (Rosie) Terhaar of Glenwood, Bernard (Shirley) Terhaar of Rogers and Kenneth (Virginia) Terhaar of Brooten; sisters: Ruth Stepan of Brooten, Bernice Klein of Breckenridge, Barbara North of St. Cloud and Anna Marie Rameta of Los Angeles, California; brother-in-law, Dewayne Popelik; sisters-in-law, Shirley Terhaar and Patricia Terhaar; nieces, nephews, other relative and friends. Clifford is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Richard, Oscar, Ester.
