Obituary

Clinton A. Welte, age 83, of Brooten, MN, died Saturday, December 7, 2013, at Glenwood Village Care Center in Glenwood.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 12th at Scandia Lutheran Church in rural Glenwood, with Rev. Ron Knutson officiating.  Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home in Brooten and will resume on Thursday at the church at 1:00 P.M.  Interment will be in Scandia Lutheran Cemetery.  Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Brooten. Clinton was born on August 3, 1930 in Graettinger, Iowa to Christa and Constance (Howell) Welte. The family moved to many different areas of Minnesota while Clint was growing up. They settled for a time in Terrace, Minnesota until his parents moved to Florida in 1956. At that time Clint moved to Minneapolis and began work at Old Dutch Foods and worked there as a maintenance supervisor until 1969. This is where he met Sylvina (Sally) Olson. The couple was married on March 30, 1957. This union was blessed with three children. Clinton Served as a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951-54. During the late 1960's he started a business in Brooklyn Park, MN with Bob Bast manufacturing dune buggys and working on packaging equipment. In 1969 Clint and Bob moved their families and business to Brooten where they began to manufacture irrigation equipment. In the fall of 1969 Clinton and Sally purchased a farm near Brooten where they raised their family. In 1969 Clinton also partnered with Herb Hauge farming until Herb's death in 1997.  In the mid 1980's he formed a partnership selling Aqua Therm wood-fired boilers. He sold his share of the businesses in the late 1980's. Clint enjoyed restoring and flying airplanes with his brother Christa (Chrissie). He was an active member of Scandia Free Lutheran Church where he served various roles including printing the bulletins for Scandia church as well as South Lake Johanna church. Clint also loved fishing and working with wood. He helped with the remodeling and built the cabinets for the new kitchen in the church. Clint had many talents and spent his life using these talents to help anyone he could. If something was broken you took it to Clint! In July 2011 Clint moved to the Glenwood Retirement Home where he lived until his death on December 7, 2013. Clinton is survived by his wife Sally, his sons Alan (Mary) of Bismarck, ND, James (Ruthie) of Brooten; a daughter Sarah (Don) Lewis of Brooten; brothers Carroll (Fran) of Ramsey, MN, Clayton of West Fargo, ND, Clifford (Joalyn) of Zimmerman, MN, Curtis (Marylyn) of Cokato, MN; sisters Charlotte Johnson of La Mesa, CA, Cindy (William) Jenkins of Wilton, CA, Corliss (Paul) Grindstaff of Cedar Hills, TX, and Cathie (Larry) Kuhl of Fredericksburg, TX; 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Christa and Constance; an infant sister Charlene; brothers Coleman and Christa (Chrissie).
