Daniel Walter age 72, died of a heart attack on Saturday, December 20, 2014, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Interment will be in the spring at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, Minnesota. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Daniel Henry Walter was born March 26, 1942 in Westport, Minnesota. He was one of 14 children born to Kenneth and Mildred (Peterson) Walter. Daniel grew up on the family farm and graduated from Villard High School in 1960.
On April 7, 1961, Daniel entered the United States Army. He spent 2 ½ years in Germany, starting out in HQ and ended as an Armor Crewman and Tank Commander. He received the good conduct medal and was honorably discharged on April 15, 1964.
After his discharge, Daniel went to work for Osakis Silo Company for two years as a crew chief erecting silos around the state. He always pointed out his silos, still standing tall and straight. He then furthered his education attending Brown Institute in Minneapolis.
Daniel was united in marriage to Linda Olson in August of 1966. He graduated from the Brown Institute in 1967 and the couple moved to Glenwood. Daniel started working for Clyde Machines, working up to the Vice President position. He continued to work at Clydes until 1981. He then went into partnership with four friends to create Quadro Corporation, where he worked until the time of his death.
Daniel was a member of the Glenwood American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed farming, working on the #76 pit crew, snowmobiling, hunting of all kinds and fishing, both summer and winter.
Daniel is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda of Glenwood; siblings: George (MaryAnn) Walter of Alexandria, Ruth Tomes of Omaha, NE, Leona Stratton of Huntington Beach, CA, Marge (Abe) Heppner of Blaine, MN, Charles (Mary Ann) Walter of Berwick, PA, Eunice (Gary) Pederson of Laporte, MN, Ivan Walter of Monticello, MN, Clinton (Debbie) Walter of Fergus Falls, MN, Fred (Debbie) Walter of Osakis, and Roger Walter of Johnston, SC; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dorothy and Grace Walter; brother, Leslie Walter; sisters-in-law, Machelle and Gail Walter; and brothers-in-law, Ed Tomes and Don Stratton.
