Darrin Michael Foss, son of Calvin Stanley Foss and Patricia Ann (Goehring) Zaffke, was born on May 18, 1965 in Shakopee MN. He was the first of two children born to his parents. Darrin grew up in the Minneapolis area including Shakopee, Cottage Grove, St Louis Park and Prior Lake. He completed his high school years with a GED, and went on to complete various college courses. In 1982 Darrin enlisted in the Army for two years. In 1983, while in the service, he was united in marriage to Michelle Ranee Spears in Minneapolis. Even though the marriage was short, they did have one son, Joshua Roger Foss, born in 1985.
Darrin had numerous jobs in his younger years, and he was also quite an entrepreneur, starting a cleaning company and purchasing a Cousin’s Subs. Darrin finally found his passion in the real estate business. He worked with a development company in Minneapolis and became a property manager of multiple building complexes in Florida. He earned multiple certifications in this business and was highly regarded by his coworkers and managers. Darrin also tried his hand at flipping houses.
Darrin at times lived in the Minneapolis area, but his real love was Florida. He had many friends there and was very active with motorcycles, jet skis, speed boats, and all outdoor activities.
Darrin’s journey with Huntington’s disease started in about 2006 and he spent the last eight years in Knute Nelson Nursing Home in Alexandria. It was a tough journey, but Darrin always remained positive, always with a smile.
He is survived by his mother Patricia Zaffke; his son, Joshua Foss; his sister, Denice (Larry) Sobolik; aunts, Tammy (Jerry Haviland) Goehring, Kathy Fredricson, Beverly Wentworth, Chris Corley; along with nieces, nephews and cousins.
Darrin was preceded in death by his father, Calvin Foss; grandparents, Lester and Marie Foss and Dorthy and Ervin Goehring; aunt, Kathy Gilbertson and her husband, Larry; uncle, Jim Goehring and his wife, Jean; aunt, Donna Martin and her husband, Gary; and aunt, Pam Goehring.
Darrin will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his kindness, intelligence and positive outlook on life. He was very brave all through the hard journey that is Huntington’s disease.
