David G. Hoffman, age 82, died Wednesday February 18th, at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood, MN. A Memorial service will be held Monday at 11am at Glenwood Lutheran Church with Rev. Randy Chrissis and Rev. Krista Lee officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church the day of the service. Inurnment will be in the spring at Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
David George Hoffman, the son of Herman and Lilah (Coon) Hoffman, was born October 12, 1932 in Park Rapids, Minnesota. He was raised in Park Rapids, where he attended school and graduated high school in 1950. He went on to further his education and graduated from Bemidji State Teachers College in 1954. He began working as a National Bank Examiner in Minneapolis. On August 23, 1956 Dave entered the United States Army, serving his country as a military intelligence specialist stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged on August 22, 1958.
After his discharge he continued to work for the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. On January 5, 1963, Dave was united in marriage to Pauline Haugen at Glenwood Lutheran Church in Glenwood. Dave and Pauline made their home in Bismarck, ND and later lived in Lacrosse, WI; Minneapolis, MN; and North Olmsted, Ohio. For the last 16 years Dave and Pauline have been wintering in Lake Havasu City, AZ. After retiring from the OCC in1988, he went to work for Young and Associates as a senior banking consultant. He continued working for Young and Associates after the couple moved to Glenwood in 1992, working until he was 75 years old. Dave was very active in the communities he lived in. He was a member and served on the Boards of Glenwood Lutheran Church, Sons of Norway Mjøsen Lodge, and the Terrace Mill Foundation. He also was a member of the Glenwood Lions Club and when he was younger, the Masons. He also served on the Glenwood Retirement Village board. Dave loved singing, and was active many choirs, including the Pope County Men's Chorus and church choirs in Minnesota, Arizona, and Ohio. Dave enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and hunting, and especially enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, Alice. Dave passed away February 18, 2015 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Pauline Hoffman of Glenwood; sons, Paul Hoffman of Glenwood and Eric Hoffman of Baltimore, MD; granddaughter, Alice Hoffman; Brother-in-law, Dave Benton; Sisters-in-law, Virginia Cahoon of Clearlake, IA, Sonia Byrd of Nashville, TN, and Darla Haugen of New Hope, MN; godsons, Steve Benton and Brian Cahoon; and many dear friends and relatives.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Lilah Hoffman.
