Delores Strommen, age 82, of Fargo, ND, and formerly of Glenwood, MN, died Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at Villa Maria Nursing Home in Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 16 th at Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church in Terrace with Pastor Bonnie Lomen officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Hoplin-Hitchcock funeral home in Glenwood. Visitation will also continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Delores J. Strommen, daughter of Joseph and Myrtle (Omland) Hoium, was born September 22, 1933 in Alexandria, Minnesota. She graduated from Alexandria High School and attended Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota, and graduated with a bachelor's degree in music. On August 15, 1959, she married Harold Strommen and they moved to a country home south of Glenwood. In 2013, Delores and Harold moved to Glenwood Estates, Glenwood, MN and in 2014, they moved to Villa Maria Care Center, Fargo, North Dakota.
Delores was a life time member of Mu Phi Epsilon, a national music society. She taught music at Morris Public Schools, Morris, Minnesota, and also gave piano lessons at her home. She was the organist at Chippewa Falls and Barsness Lutheran Churches for 53 years. She played for numerous weddings and funerals in the area. Delores was also very involved in 4-H, being a leader and hauling livestock to the county and state fair. In addition, she had a day care for 12 years in her home and was also the business manager for their truck line.
Delores died on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at the Villa Maria Care Center in Fargo.
She is survived by her husband: Harold Strommen of Fargo; five children: Bryan (Jane) Strommen of Arthur, North Dakota, Nancy (Jay Samuelson) Strommen of Fargo, North Dakota, Peggy (Brad Akervik) Strommen of Nelson, Minnesota, Tammy (Tony Aas) Pederson of Watertown, South Dakota, and Mark (Heather) Strommen of Argusville, North Dakota; grandchildren: Tabitha, Britney and Brock Strommen, Nicole and Michelle Pederson, Leighton and Ryker Strommen and Adara and Skylar Lidgett; brother: Melvin (Helen) Hoium, Holmes City, Minnesota, and Gerdes Zimmerman of Delano, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
