Obituary

Donald G. Lardy, age 77, died Sunday, August 2, 2015 at home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 8 at 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady of the Runestone Church in Kensington.  Visitation will be Friday from 4 – 7 P.M., with Parish Prayers and a Rosary starting at 7 P.M. at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home, and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church the day of the service.  Arrangements are with  Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.

Donald George Lardy, the son of George and Victoria (Zielinski) Lardy was born April 3, 1938 in Wibaux County, Montana.  He grew up on a farm and attended school and church in Sentinel Butte, North Dakota.  He graduated valedictorian from Sentinel Butte High School in 1956.  After high school, Don entered the United States Army on September 6, 1962.  He served his country and was honorably discharged on August 2, 1963.

On November 26, 1965, Don was united in marriage to Judith Odenbaugh in Dead Wood, South Dakota.  The couple made their home in Sentinel Butte where Don farmed.  In 1975, Don and Judi purchased a farm south of Farwell, Minnesota where Don continued to farm.

Don was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church while living in Sentinel Butte then became an active member of Our Lady of the Runestone Catholic Church in Kensington for the last 40 years.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 30 years.  Don enjoyed farming and working on his machinery.  He also enjoyed fishing and did woodworking and craft projects.  He especially loved his family.  He was very dedicated to his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren and most recently his great-grandchildren.  Don was very dedicated to his Catholic faith.  He lived it well and always put God first.  He will be remembered with a cigar (not lit) in his mouth and a cap on his head.  Don passed away August 2, 2015 at his home in Farwell.

He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Judith Lardy; sons: Kurt (Darla) Lardy of Farwell, Clint (Christy) Lardy of Tea, SD, and James Lardy of Philipsburg, MT; son-in-law, Wade Hoekstra of Clara City, MN; grandchildren: Seth, Cord, Ty and Brock Lardy, Angyl, Ashley, Weston, Brittney and Jessica Lardy, Quinten, Dylan and Regan Lardy, and Zachary, Braden and Tommy Hoekstra; great-grandchildren: Easton Norman, Grace Lardy and Bowen Lardy; sisters: Betty (Dan) Blue of Portland, OR and Donna (Paul) Latka of Townsend, MT; brother-in-law, Marty Johnson of Portland, OR; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Don is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tanya Hoekstra; sister, Carol Johnson; brother, Kenneth Lardy; and sister-in-law, Darlene Lardy.
