Donald A. Ross, age 87, of Glenwood, MN, died Sunday, November 24, 2013, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday at Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church, in Terrace, MN, with Pastor Duane Danielson officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home in Glenwood, and will resume at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday at the church. Interment will be in Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.
Donald Albert Ross, son of Albert and Mamie (Anderson) Ross, was born on March 13, 1926, in Minneapolis, MN. He grew up in Minneapolis and attended Washburn High School. Donald entered the U.S. Navy on March 8, 1944 and served until May 13, 1946, when he was honorably discharged. He then went on to attend classes at Dunwoody Institute, where he received a trades degree in pipefitting and steamfitting. He settled in Minneapolis where he worked for Horwitz Mechanical for over 25 years.
On November 24, 1950, Donald was united in marriage to Ina Mae Hanson at St. John's Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Judy and Patricia. Over the years Donald and his family lived in Bloomington, Savage and Richmond, MN, as well as Sioux City, IA, and Apache Junction, AZ, and most recently, Glenwood, MN.
Donald was a member of Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church, Pipe Fitters Union Local #539, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Zahrah Shriners and the Starbuck VFW. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, gardening, supporting wildlife and spending time with family and friends.
Donald will be remembered as being frugal, yet generous, as well as being a loving husband, father and grandfather. His family was very much aware of how proud he was of them and they will miss his love and support.
Donald is survived by his daughter, Judy Enfield and her husband, Dennis, of Sioux City, IA, and daughter, Patricia Ross and her companion, John Bartz, of Glenwood, MN; as well as two grandchildren, Jason Enfield and Sara Enfield, both of Richfield, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Ina Mae Ross in 2003; two sisters, Agnes Smalkoski and Ethel Markwell, as well as two infant brothers.
