Obituary

Doris Neumann, age 91 of Alexandria died Monday, March 21, 2016 at the Grand Arbor Assisted Living in Alexandria.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 26 th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove Lake with Pastor Philip Beyersdorf officiating.  Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Glenwood and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church in Grove Lake.  Interment will be in Grove Lake Cemetery.  Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Doris Della Mae Neumann, the daughter of John Lewis and Della Genevieve (Gilyard) Henry was born November 23, 1924 in Foley, Minnesota. She grew up on a farm near Foley. Doris was baptized and confirmed in 1940. She graduated from Foley High School in 1942.

After graduation she worked at Char-Gale in St. Cloud as a "Rosie-Riveter" making airplane parts during war time. Doris also worked as a Stenographer-typist at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis and the Northland Canning Company. She then worked as a Teller at the Union State Bank in Sauk Rapids.

On October 20, 1946, Doris was united in marriage to Elmer Hugo Neumann in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. Doris and Elmer farmed near Swanville until 1948, when they purchased a farm near Grove Lake. In 1950 they purchased the General Store in Grove Lake which they operated until it was destroyed by fire in 1958. Returning to farming, Doris milked cows while Elmer worked construction. Doris continued to be a dairy farmer until the age of 65 when she began working at Bayer Built Woodworks in Belgrade until 2001.

Doris and Elmer shared 32 years of marriage and were blessed with six children. After Elmer's death in 1978 Doris continued to live in Grove Lake until 2013 when she moved into The Gables assisted living and a year later into Grand Arbor assisted living in Alexandria where she resided until her death on March 21, 2016.

Doris was an active member of Trinity Lutheran church in Grove Lake. She enjoyed mowing lawn, playing cards, gardening, cooking and baking. She especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her great cooking, wonderful work ethic and her giving spirit.

Doris is survived by her children: Karen (Gary) Nemmers of Sauk Centre, Gary (Kay) Neumann of Grove Lake, Arlene (Thomas) Bowen of Glenwood, June (Albert) Wheeler of Aliso Viejo, California, and Kenneth Neumann of Alexandria; siblings: Helen Hyttsten of Becker and Alvin (Connie) Henry of Foley; son-in-law: Ken Koob of Terrace; grandchildren: Troy (Wendy) Nemmers, Tony (Janae) Nemmers, Tracy (Korey) Bender, Tanya (Matthew) Jensen, Tamara (Robert) Revoir, Michael (Lisa) Neumann, Jennifer (Fred) Staples, John (Michelle) Bowen, Julie Bowen, Justin (Megan) Wheeler, Ryan Wheeler, Nathan (Taylor) Wheeler, Sarah (Jeramiah) Melquist, Scott Neumann, Sammi Jo (Mike) Lindemann, and Steven (Yukari) Neumann; great-grandchildren: Claire, Meredith and Audrey Nemmers, Treyson and Blake Nemmers, Acadia Bender (twin babies expected in April), McKenna Horan, Parker Jensen, Joseph and Samuel Revoir, Kristen and Cody Neumann, Tristan, Brayden and Ava Staples, Kyle, Ethan and Grace Jordan, Landon Wheeler, Addison, Kaiden and Brienna Melquist, Jackson Neumann, Brody and Liam Lindemann and Skye Neumann; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughter, Janet Koob; siblings, Alma Herbst, Vernon Henry and Donald Henry.

The Lord gives and the Lord takes away; blessed be the name of the Lord. We give thanks to God our Father through Jesus Christ, our Lord for Doris.
