Doris L. Knutson, age 94 of Brooten, died Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 4th at South Lake Johanna Lutheran Church in rural Brooten with Pastor Bryant Kaden officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Brooten and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the South Lake Johanna Lutheran Cemetery.
Doris Lillian Knutson the daughter of John and Dena (Clausen) Skarpness was born January 1, 1921 in Kerkhoven Township, Swift County, Minnesota. She grew up on a farm and attended District 63 country school.
On November 7, 1939, Doris was united in marriage to Raymond Knutson in the Lutheran parsonage in Sunburg, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with four children. Doris and Raymond made their home in Norway Lake Township where they farmed and raised their children. The couple shared 44 years of marriage before Raymond passed away in 1983. After Ray's death Doris moved to Brooten.
Doris was an active member of the South Lake Johanna Lutheran Church. She served as the president, vice president, secretary, was the stewardship secretary of WELCA, taught Sunday school, served on the altar guild and sang in the choir. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, playing the organ, piano and guitar, reading and helping Ray with chores and the farm work. She will be remembered for her hard work on their farm, her kindness and thoughtfulness to her family and friends. She had a very strong faith in God which sustained her through the losses in her life. She maintained her clear mind and good memory living independently until she passed away.
Doris is survived by her sons: Ronald (Ellie) Knutson of Kerkhoven, David (Elaine) Knutson of Brooten and Gordon Michael (Kris) Knutson of Brooten; daughter, Judy (Jerry) Hubert of Glenwood; 14 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; sister, Mildred Wendt of Glenwood; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond; sister, Florence Spaanem, grandson, Johathan Knutson; and great grandsons, Cody Nelson and Anthony Tullis.
