Dorothy N. Theis, age 93 of Villard, died Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at the Glenwood Retirement Village in Glenwood.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3rd at St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church in Villard with Father Michael Wolfbauer officiating.  Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 2 ^nd from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Glenwood with Parish Prayers at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.  Interment will be in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Villard.  Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Dorothy Nellie Theis, the daughter of Joseph E. and Margaret (Doerhoefer) Gustaf was born May 17, 1922 in Hadley, Minnesota.  She grew up in Slayton, Minnesota and attended school in Murray County.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Nick Theis on August 17, 1940 in Slayton, Minnesota.  The couple moved to California during WWII where Dorothy worked as a secretary in the shipyards.  After the war, Dorothy and Nick moved back to Minnesota, settling and farming in Slayton before moving to a farm in Westport.  They farmed there for 3 years before moving to Babbitt, Minnesota, where Nick worked in the iron mines.  While in Babbitt, Dorothy raised her family and cleaned the town tavern at night.  They returned to farm in Westport in 1961, and ran the dairy until 1980 when Nick passed away.  Dorothy then moved into Villard where she was involved in many community groups.  Dorothy loved playing cards and crocheting afghans.  She was very lucky at casino slots and enjoyed computer games and Facebook into her 90's.

She is survived by her children: Barbara Gerdes of Villard, Charles Theis (special friend Pam Meyer) of Alexandria, James (Sandy) Theis of Holland, MI, Janet, David, and Thomas Theis all of Westport, and Michael (Janice) Theis of Fountaintown, IN; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters: Elsie Thuftedahl of Minneapolis, MN and Margaret "Marky" Kirk of Garvin, MN; brothers, Francis (Wilma) Gustaf of Slayton and Lester Art (Arlene) Gustaf of Council Bluffs, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 40 years, Nick; daughter, Margaret Kinnunen; sons-in-law; Clyde Kinnunen and Lee Gerdes; daughter-in-law, Lynda Johnson Theis; sisters, Agnes Anderson, Rose Christienson and Katherine Klingbeil; brothers, Paul, Joseph and James Gustaf.
