Edward "Eddie" DeSmith, age 73, of Glenwood, MN, and formerly of Storden, MN, died peacefully, Tuesday, October 27, 2015, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN surrounded by his family.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 2nd, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood, with Fr. Joe Vandeberg officiating.  Visitation will be from 2:00 - 4:00 PM on Sunday at the funeral home in Glenwood and will continue on Monday at the church for one hour prior to the service.  Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.

Edward "Eddie" Henry DeSmith, the son of Henry and Violet (Vanderlinden) DeSmith was born July 4, 1942 in Tracy, Minnesota.  He grew up in Walnut Grove, MN where he attended school and graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1960.  After high school, Eddie joined the United States Navy.  He served his country from 1961 – 1965 and was stationed on the USS Iwo Jima.  In 1967, Eddie was united in marriage to Kathleen Haugen.  This marriage was blessed with five children.  They made their home in Jeffers, Minnesota, where Eddie worked as a carpenter.

On January 17, 1986, Eddie was united in marriage to Marlene (Erickson) Iverson in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  Eddie and Marlene made their home in Storden, Minnesota for twenty years before moving to Glenwood in 2006.

Eddie was a member of American Legion Post #401 and fire and ambulance department in Jeffers, MN.  He belonged to the Sun Valley Gun Club in Windom, MN, the Glenwood Gun Club and was a lifetime member of the NRA and ATA.  He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood.  He enjoyed cooking, loved the outdoors and enjoyed trap shooting, was an avid hunter, devout camper and eager fisherman.  Eddie especially loved to spend time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Marlene DeSmith of Glenwood; children: Lori (Marc) Agar of Wayzata, MN, Lonnie (Deb) DeSmith of Starbuck, Shawn DeSmith of Sauk Centre, MN, Travis (Corina Jones) DeSmith of Wayzata, MN, Sarah (Nathan) McNamara of Chaska, MN, Angela (Rodney) Sykora of Jeffers, MN, David (Shari) Iverson of Fairmont, MN and Julie (Rodney) Smith of Springfield, MN; 20 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Eddie is preceded in death by his parents.
