Elda L. Strommen age 84, of Kensington, died Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at her home in Kensington. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 14th at First Lutheran Church in Kensington. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery in Kensington.
Elda LaRose Strommen the daughter of Elda (Nelson) and Joseph Hubred was born September 26, 1928 in Fortuna, North Dakota. When she was a teenager, she moved with her family to Kensington, Minnesota. She attended school and graduated from Kensington High School. After high school, Elda married Selmar Sanvig and to this union one son, Semi was born.
On May 30 1953, Elda was united in marriage to Melvin Strommen in Hibbing Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with two sons, Dale and Thomas. Elda and Melvin made their home in St. Louis Park before moving to Kensington in 1955. Over the years, she worked as a nanny, factory worker, waitress, clerk and homemaker. Elda enjoyed reading, playing cards, dancing and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Elda passed away September, 10, 2013 at her home in Kensington.
She is survived by her sons, Semi (Liz) Sanvig of Trapper Creek, AK, and Thomas (Linda) Strommen of Brooklyn Park, MN; daughter-in-law, Marti Paulson-Strommen; grandchildren, Jackie Sanvig, Allan Sanvig, Joshua (Ranell) Strommen, Christina (Kyle) Kirkham, Jeanette Strommen, and Rebecca Strommen; great-grandchildren, Carter, Reese, and Sierra Strommen, Maya Strommen and Lexi Paulson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Elda was preceded in death by her parents, Elda and Joseph Hubred; husband, Melvin Strommen; son, Dale Strommen; granddaughter, Tara Strommen; brothers, Joseph, Dennis and Chester; twin sister, Edna, and sisters, Idella and Delores.
