Ellwood Engen, age 83 of rural Glenwood, died Sunday, November 3, 2013 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, November 7th at Scandia Lutheran Church in rural Glenwood with Pastor Ron Knutson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangments are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Ellwood Peter Engen, the son of Edward and Gertrude (Peterson) Engen was born May 11, 1930 in Gilchrist Township, Pope County, Minnesota. He grew up on a farm in Gilchrist Township and attended District #3 Country School. Ellwood lived on a farm and was a dairy farmer most of his life. On November 18, 1961, he was united in marriage to Ann Knoll in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They made their home on a farm on Lake Scandi.
Ellwood was the supervisor of the Gilchrist town board for 17 years. He also was a member of the Pope County Sheriff's posse for two years. He enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing and mowing grass. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered as a very generous, patient, positive, hard working man. Ellwood passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ann Engen of rural Glenwood; daughters, Kristine (Michael Steele) Engen of Peyton, Colorado, and Lori (fiancé' Brian Schlandorff) Pomerleau of Willmar; grandchildren, Cherie Rust, Bobbi Jo Hall, Amanda Hall, Mason Pomerleau and Amber Pomerleau; sisters, Doris Burkey of Alexandria and Lois Foss of Arizona; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ellwood was preceded in death by his parents; infant sons, John and James Engen; daughter, Patricia Hall; and grandson, Shawn Hall.
