Eugene "Gene" Tauber, age 71, of rural Glenwood, MN, died unexpectedly on Monday, November 23, 2015, at his residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home in Glenwood, with Parish Prayers at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will continue on Saturday morning at 10:00 A.M. at the church. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.
Eugene Steven Tauber, son of James and Christine (Vindedahl) Tauber, was born on August 13, 1944, in Glenwood, MN. He and his seven siblings were raised on the family farm near Glenwood. They attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Gene was a 1962 graduate of Glenwood High School. Following high school, Gene moved to Wahpeton, ND, to attend Wahpeton State School of Science, where he studied Building Construction. He then went on to work as a self-employed building contractor for many years.
On January 17, 1981, Gene was united in marriage to Sharon Putnam in Phillips, Wisconsin. Following their marriage, the two made their home in Glenwood.
Gene always had a project going. He enjoyed woodworking and could make practically anything. He loved being on the farm and having his grandchildren around. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He will be remembered as generous, loving, compassionate, and someone who was always willing to help folks out.
Gene is survived by his loving wife, Sharon, of Glenwood; his sons, Jason (Traci) Tauber of Glenwood, Scott (Jenice) Tauber of Polk City, IA, Shawn (Lynn) Tauber of Urbandale, IA, and Travis (Angie) Tauber of Grinnell, IA; 2 step-daughters, Diane (Edward) Murray of Spokane, WA, and Donna (James) Bain of Omaha, NE; a step-son, Ronald Witt of Madison, WI; grandchildren: Heather Byington, Carson and Parker Tauber, Tyler and Sara Tauber, Wynter and Kaylee Tauber, Dalton, Rachel and Zoee Tauber; great-grandchildren: Tristyn, Jordan and Octavia; a sister, Helen Bahlmann of Lowry, MN; a brother, James Tauber of Nelson, MN; sister-in-law, Agatha Tauber; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Christine Tauber; two sisters, Alice Luetgers and Helen (in infancy); 4 brothers, Edward, Paul, Leonard, and George Tauber.
