Obituary

Everell J. Barsness, age 71, died on Sunday, August 9, 2015, at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.  Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 15th, at Glenwood Lutheran Church, with Rev. Randy Chrissis officiating.  Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home in Glenwood, with a time for sharing memories and stories at 7:00 P.M.  Visitation will continue on Saturday at Glenwood Lutheran Church, one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be in Lake Ann Cemetery, rural Glenwood.  Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.

Everell Jerome Barsness, Jr., son of Everell Jerome and Emma Viola (Larson) Barsness, was born on December 4, 1943, in Starbuck, MN.  He grew up in Starbuck with his brother, Dale, and three sisters, Lorraine, Deanna and Rebecca.  Everell attended school in Starbuck, graduating with the Class of 1961.  He went on to attend the University of Minnesota at Morris.  Everell then joined the military and after active duty he was in the Army Reserve for many years.  On December 17, 1966, he was united in marriage to Patty Jane Blair at Glenwood Lutheran Church.  They made their home in Glenwood and their marriage was blessed with two children, Michelle and Chad.

Everell was employed by the Pope County Highway Department and retired after 35 years.  He was also very active in the community serving as a member of the Glenwood City Council, Mayor and Pope County Commissioner.  In addition, he served as a Waterama Admiral, President of the Jaycees, youth wresting coach, polling judge, and was involved in his church, Glenwood Lutheran.  Everell's hobbies included croquet tournaments, boating, deer hunting, waterskiing, reading, movies, dancing, listening to music, walking, current events/politics, weekly poker club, and designing and building things, including his northwoods cabin which he enjoyed sharing with family and friends.

Everell was a loving husband, father and grandfather who would do anything for his family.  His solid work ethic, strength of character, leadership, sense of humor and compassion will long be remembered by those who knew him.  Everell was diagnosed with leukemia in 2010 and more recently with colon cancer.  He fought cancer fiercely, maintaining a positive attitude and never gave up.  He died on Sunday, August 9, 2015, at the Glacial Ridge Hospital, with Patty by his side, having lived to the age of 71 years.

Everell is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patty, of Glenwood; daughter, Michelle Barsness and William Moore of Highlands Ranch, CO; son, Chad (Jennifer) Barsness of Glenwood Springs, CO; three grandchildren, Jacob, Elizabeth and Emma Barsness; three sisters, Lorraine (Orville) Felt of Burnsville, Deanna (Melvin) Roller of Starbuck, and Rebecca (Daniel) Janisch of Apple Valley; a brother, Dale of Paynesville; his mother-in-law, Eunice Blair; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Everell and Emma Barsness; his father-in-law, Ed Blair; two sisters-in-law, Roxann Blair and Yvonne Barsness.
